Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has resigned to work in the private sector, he announced in a news release Tuesday.

"Yesterday, I informed the prime minister that I am resigning from cabinet. This was a decision I made with my family earlier this year, as I will be returning to the private sector," Flaherty said in a statement.

"I am grateful to Prime Minister Stephen Harper for providing me with the opportunity and responsibility to serve Canadians as their minister of finance since 2006, one of the longest serving finance ministers in Canadian history. As a government, we achieved great things for Canada and I could never have accomplished what I have as finance minister without the full support of Prime Minister Harper."

Flaherty has spent more than a year dealing with health issues and has faced repeated questions about whether he would retire.

Bail out!
No I do not think so.
He is around 63- ill- he can make better money on civvy street.
The pension changes would not affect him (MPs pensions change in 2015). Others whether Lib, Con or NDP will bail due to this.

The hardest part is when these clowns start getting all serious about being so happy to be able to "serve Canadians." Whatever buddy, who dod you think you're kidding? You--and Duffy and Harb and the rest of them--are there to serve yourselves. So can the fake humbility.

Last I saw and heard of Flaherty, he wasn't a well man. All the best to him in wherever the path may lead.

I'm sorry to hear that, he's one of the very few honest politicians from what I can gather. Hope it's not on account of his health. Just wondering if there is anyone else in the party honest enough to fill the position and has the sense to keep a tight hold on the purse strings.

Don't know about up there, but down hereabouts the translations are:

"I want to spend more time with my family" = I'm about to be indicted.

"I will seek opportunities in the private sector" = I'm cashing in on all the favours I gave out when I was in office. Cha-ching!

My thoughts exactly.

"I will seek opportunities in the private sector" = I'm cashing in on all the favours I gave out when I was in office. Cha-ching!

On this your translation is way off. You must have used Google translator.

Anyone know what kind of affliction he has? Not Lupus is it?

Not the name, but it causes the skin to erupt in blisters. Very painful. Put up a strong front. That in itself would be exhausting, but it is quite telling regarding his personal drive.
