"Canada" has never been at war with Rwanada. Canada has never fought a war against Rwanada. So how about you elaborate and explain how this comes even close to the examples given of the USSR in Afghanistan and the u.s. in Vietnam.

Come now Gerry...certainly you aren't going to try to use that it wasn't a "war".

We all know what happened in Rwanda.

You tell us. Explain how Canada's role in Rwanda was the same as the soviets in Afghanistan and the u.s. in Vietnam.

What does that have to do with Rwanda doing "pretty well" against Canada? Which was the examples that LG was bringing up.

then expand on that, how did Rwanda do "pretty well" against Canada. Cite the battles that Rwanda was in against Canada.

doing a lot of dancing instead of answering the question. If you can't back up your assertion, then just say so.

No dancing. We've talked about this before Gerry. You know that... I know that.

Sorry if you're feeling cheated.

and I don't see the comparison. Rwanada was a U.N. mission where Delaires hands were tied when it came to the Rwandan genocide. There is no comparison to the u.s. and vietnam or the soviets and Afghanistan. I'm asking you to show how they are comparable, because in my mind, they are not.

Nobody said the missions were comparable. That is you trying to steer away from my point to LG to yours.

But hands tied? Come on... they were UN Peace Keepers. The mission was clear.

I guess I could say our hands were tied in Vietnam. How would that fly? Not so well I am guessing.

Ok., then what was your point to LG

The U.N. set the mandate not Canada , and when Delaire told the U.N. that he was going after the weapons cache as it was under his mandate, he was told no, it's not part of your mandate. So all Delaire could do is sit with his thumb up his a$$ and watch.

Were they? The U.N. set the mandate and told the u.s. what they could and couldn't do? Or was the u.s. in charge of the whole thing?

Review that on your own

Yeah... that is the excuse... the UN said so, so Delaire had his hands tied. Pfft.

And that is all he did... sit there with his thumb up his azz. Oh... he sent Belgian troops to a hot spot unsupported and they were overtaken and killed and mutilated. Now why the heck would a Canadian General send Belgians into a hot spot when the bulk of the UN Forces were Canadian?

Wouldn't it have been great if he actually did something to actually keep the peace? Protect the helpless?

"Although many nations including the US and France originally declared they would contribute troops to the operation in Rwanda, no country other than Canada actually placed forces under the MNF (Multinational Force) commander. Despite taking the lead, Canada could not convince others to follow, and could do little itself to fill the void because at that time Canada was also supporting missions in Bosnia, Croatia and Haiti."

I did? lol

Whatever.

Hey... I know it's a stinger. I'd be embarrassed too if I let machete wielding thugs rule for a month killing 800K people when my forces were supposed to be protecting them.

I suggest that you have a rather misinformed view of what actually happened in Rwanda.

eagle just doesn't like ANY kind of perceived criticism of the u.s., plus, he obviously lives in his own little world when he tries comparing a U.N. "peacekeeping" mission to soviet Afghanistan and u.s. vietnam when those 2 "conflicts" were being used as an example of how a smaller less armed opponent can hold or even defeat a larger and better armed opponent.
