Why should " I don't believe" not be a viable answer?......
did I say that?
what i'm saying is that people keep getting the idea that there are only two choices: to believe or not believe. This is a serious logical mistake and should be discouraged.
Why should " I don't believe" not be a viable answer?......
I sure hope there's beer in the afterlife.
I don't think you quite grasp just how irrational your beliefs are . You say that people like me will not believe short of seeing it . I tell you there really is nothing that will convince me directly . The things you speak of take place outside the domain of reason so you can't really expect me to site a reasonable source of evidence . How about just proving it's possible to survive ones own death . Everything you see hear and feel is processed through your brain , you want me and other reasonable people to accept that somehow you can still interact with the world when your brain is ground to dust ? I refuse to believe in something that doesn't even reach the level of being rationally baseless , it;s down right upsurd . You think it's an accident that more people hear scray sounds after you tell them that a place is haunted ? You think it's an accident that children see more of these things than adults ? I'am not a shrink and I really don't engage in pop psychology but it's safe to say the more you believe in this nonsense the more likely you are to see it , It's called the power of suggestion . Here is another question notice kids too young to understand a scary history sleep soundly in the night while there slightly older siblings wet the bed in fear of the big bad boogie man .And then you'd let the shrink medicate you into nonbelief? I dunno...Ive been to a shrink or two and I do have some issues but hallucination is not one of them. And I have seen things that simply cannot be explained by today's science.
Or better yet, what if that shrink told you there was nothing wrong with you? What would be your explaination then?
Nonbelief is like cement. It fixes you in one place and you're just stuck til something jackhammers you out of it.
LOL that show was sooooo funny . He keeps probing people to say things then repeats what they say and they go "ohhhh"Yep. Oogaboogaa alright.
One of the worst was John (The Amazing Kreskin) Edwards and his cheesey 'Crossing Over' crock.
$$$$$
Gimme a break.
I don't have a belief system .Im not asking anyone to believe. But I do think it is ridiculous to think that ALL unnatural events are psychotic. Psychotic episodes don't explain why a glass flies across a room and breaks into a dozen pieces. Psychotic episodes don't explain metalic implants one suddenly finds in one's body (and that a doctor verifies). Psychotic episodes don't explain how one has specific information about future events.
While I would agree that the VAST MAJORITY of things that seem paranormal do have an explaination. Certainly psychology plays a role. But to flat out deny any possibility other than your belief system is tantamount to swearing the earth is flat. It's ok to admit there are some things we, as humans, just don't know.
I'am not a devout anything , notice the evoking of glass flying across rooms and doctor confirmed metal listening devices (No doubt part of a conspiracy between aliens and our half reptilian government) . I've explained this to you before karrie I cannot accept untestable , unproven , abstract theories like an afterlife and possessions without A) being a hypocryite believing in my irrational nonsense and rejecting other peoples .what I find interesting is how fearful 'devout rationality' can seem to me sometimes. Not being willing to let your mind rest on the irrational, unexplainable, unknown.... it can seem a bit like never being willing to jump into the deep end of the pool and take a risk.
Doesn't matter your still using a theory that is flawed for two reasonsUnnatural theories? That's why it's called the Paranormal *grin*
They aren't testable with anything we've found so far. But that doesnt mean they don't exist or are simply tricks of the mind.
To use your analogy, just because it doesn't seem true at this moment doesn't make it impossible.
No, it doesnt make sense. That's why it is being studied. Sometimes by legitimate groups and individuals.
Nobody said anything about listening devices.
I do think it is very arrogant to dismiss what someone experienced. Just because it can't be made to happen again on demand doesn't mean it didnt in fact happen the first time. Or a dozen times for that matter.
I live on the 8th floor of a very solid highrise. I have personally witnessed a glass and pewter vessel lift off a table and smash against a wall over 8 feet away--at a spot higher than it rested on the table. I have seen that. I have the broken glass. According to you, Im either nuts or a liar.
