I think anyone that murders should be executed, a life for a life, there are so many ways of finding the right person now that an convicting the wrong prson is almost impossible. They should not do a death penalty unless they are 100% sure they have the right person. If any doubt at all then they should not. Also phedo's should be castrated also rapists and any other sex offenders, and terrorists should be put in a room with a bomb in it and watch it count down till it goes off, if its not for their "cause" then Im sure their not gonna want to die are they. I think we are too soft nowadays on criminals, and if they bought something like that back, they would only have to execute a few to get the message across that we mean business, that would be enough I think to deter alot of people or at the very least make them think twice.

If we don't bring capital punishment back, we need to make some radical changes. Starting with actual life sentences, the faint hope clause is a joke.

Civilized countries use the death penalty to show the world they're serious about what it is they do. You can't operate a credible justice system without having the ultimate deterrent at your disposal. As forensics leaps ahead it's inexcusable not to endorse capital punishment. Canada's still wet behind the ears. It'll come back to its senses.

The problem is that the death penalty does not hold up to empirical scrutiny as being any kind of deterrent at all, let alone an ultimate one. Sure, it will deter you and me. But we're already deterred even without it, aren't we? The criminally insane or even just those trapped in a criminal lifestyle will not be deterred.

As for forensics, they're only as good as those performing them. There are already numerous frightening cases if incorrect DNA conclusions, either out of sheer negligence or incompetence, as well as outright corruption. The independently operated crime labs often know what results the prosecutors are looking for. They know who they need to please to get repeat business. There was a frightening expose about this on one of those investigative newsmagazine shows a few years ago.

No, we're not ready for the death penalty. Once we have a brain scanner that can read and record a person's thoughts...then OK, maybe. Until then, no way. Of course, once we can do that, we will probably be able to re-program people to never commit a crime anyway, so any punishment will be obsolete. 8)

Yes, and on it goes. And we continue to have cases where murderers escape to murder again. And jawdropping killers who serve their time and are entitled to re-enter the community. The case for capital punishment is far stronger than the abolitionist's. Empirical studies have been completed that back that up.

the death penalty, while often tempting is never a good thing. those people who dont care dont care, those who think he should die soon stop caring, but once the guy is dead, people who think he shouldnt have been "executed" (i prefer the term "killed" if you're gonna kill someone, don't give it a different name to make it sound better) will resent the government and the system which resulted in that death for ever. So the net result for the population as a whole is more resentment. No good comes of killing. I'm not a christian or an anything elseian but i strongly believe in "thou shalt not kill" that's not what we're here for.

I don't are if innocent people die because murderers stay alive. Killing people is wrong in any way shape or form, and most importantly people have to be responsible for themselves and their own actions. If the only reason people don't kill people is because they're too scared to because they might get in trouble then society needs to teach people the meaning of what being a person really is. Mind is the most precious thing in the Universe. We need to teach people how to use it, not destroy the ones we don't like.

If you're goint to bring it back, go all the way and have it for child offenders too. Join the ranks of human-rights-focused nations like China, the US, Pakistan, and Iran.
They're doing DNA testing of people on Death Row in the US and since 1973 they've released 123 because it turned out they were innocent (Amnesty International).

'Tis true. Sometimes the innocent are convicted. Sometimes the guilty are set free. It's basically a wash. Ask OJ. I wonder if he's still looking for his wife's killers. The thing remains that forensics is a formidable tool and the ability to ascertain guilt is getting stronger all the time. When it comes to certain offences, capital punishment seems to be the only sane choice.

Deal ends trial for man who killed girlfriend

A Toronto man who killed his girlfriend in 2005 received a lighter sentence Wednesday after a plea deal was accepted by the court.

Shawn Persaud, 22, was on trial for second-degree murder in the death of Lydia Gayle. The 24-year-old single mother of a young girl was stabbed to death during an argument with Persaud, who was drunk at the time.

At the time of her death, Persaud - who had a history of violence - was under a court order not to own any weapons.

In a sudden move Wednesday, Persaud was offered and accepted a deal. He pleaded not guilty to murder and instead entered a guilty plea to the charge of manslaughter.

The Crown reduced the charge, taking into consideration Persaud's level of intoxication when he plunged a knife into Gayle's heart and left her to bleed to death outside her home.

Justice David Watt ordered Persaud to serve two years, less one day, for Gayle's death. Persaud was given double credit for 18 months he spent in custody awaiting trial.

Watt said that, in his view, the sentence fit the crime.

Gayle's family members disagree. CTV's John Lancaster reported that they say the sentence will not act as a deterrent to others.

It is time to bring the death penalty back to Canada. Crime is out of control, and people just aren't getting the message. It is widely accepted that jail time is not an adequate deterrant.

Canada needs to bring back public hangings. A public execution is the only way to ensure that people get the picture.

The time for playing games with justice is over. I propose that Canada bring the death penalty back, and that the scope of crimes punishable by death, be expanded to include corrupt police officers and government officials.

A police officer or civil servant that conspires with private enterprise to commit crime and to cover it up, must face the ultimate penalty. They must be executed in the public square.

It is time to get serious. It is time to leave the words behind and get things done. Corruption cannot and will not be tolerated, and the only good deterrant is death.

Throughout history, kings and corrupt government officials have been beheaded for betraying the people. With the advent of democracy, this insistence that officials be held accountable to the people, has been somehow lost. It's time to bring accountability back to Canada. It's time to bring back the gallows, gas chambers, guilotines, and electric chairs. It's time to rid Canada of corruption. And the time tested public execution is the way to do it.

Off with their heads...

Way too much radicals, you must be a Conservatives. but i agree that the liberal party that got away with the scandals is something to think about.
