As i remember it in the original series of Star Trek (The Changeling).. Voyager collided and merged with and alien space probe some time in the 21st century.. discarded its 'greetings and peace to the galaxy media' and reconstructed and reprogrammed itself as a particularly malevolent planet destroyer. Of course it couldn't stand up to Kirk's logic of its own contradictions.. and self destructed..

The probes Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are now exploring the outer boundary of the Sun’s domain, called the heliosphere. What the probes have encountered are not what the astronomers expected. Through a series of surprises, the astronomers have openly expressed their complete bafflement over the Voyager data.
