Befuddled residents of a Dallas-area town are beating their chests over the removal of a playground prop deemed to be “racially insensitive” by members of their community.
Parents are at a loss for words after a caged gorilla statue was abruptly removed from a kids’ play area in Corsicana, Tex. after two decades.

“We can understand this, because we have an obligation to listen to all our citizens, to determine what is offensive and not, especially in public places,” the town’s mayor, Don Denbow, told CBS affiliate KTVT in Dallas, adding there were multiple complaints.

The circus-themed playground has turned into, well, something of a circus.
Residents posted notes mocking the city’s decision while others organized a candlelight vigil.
A Facebook page “in memory of” the absent ape has been set up for community members to comment on Corsicana’s puzzling decision to deem the animal racially divisive.
“This is such an embarrassment for Corsicana,” one Facebook user responded.
“Have you ever considered that the one who cried racist is the one who is [sic] actually is racist?” asked another social media user.

Some residents reportedly took issue with the cage surrounding the gorilla.
Bars were added after the statue was deemed unsafe for kids to play on.
Steven Lord, a counter-protester, told KTVT earlier this week he planned to sit in the cage until the ape was returned to its rightful home.

“It’s a toy for children,” he said.

Nothing racist about gorillas.

Of course , the real racists in this story aren't the gorilla and the children who play on it but the people who have got rid of the gorilla because they start thinking about black people when they see a gorilla - they're the ones who are linking the two.

What gets me is that it's the PC Brigade who keep banging on about racism who are the ones who are racists. A good example is the clothing company advert showing a black boy in a jumper saying "Cheeky Monkey." Needless to say, the twitchfork mob went berserk, calling the advert "racist" and calling for it to be pulled. But you need to ask yourself this: Who are the real racists? An innocent advert with a jumper in it saying "Cheeky Monkey" worn by a boy who just happens to be black and those people who just see the advert as a normal, innocent advert or the PC Brigade who, unlike most of the rest of us, see a black boy and the word "monkey" and put the two together, linking them?

Wow. The old saying is right. "Even a stopped clock is right twice a day."

When I see a dumb ape, I think of Brittish people. Do we know (at this point) the the people complaining weren't Brits?

Humans beings are apes, of course.

Aliens, when they visit us, see a planet whose dominant, most intelligent, lifeform is an ape.

It's also teaching children that gorillas = black people.

The children probably had no idea that some people call black people "gorillas" and "monkeys" - but they do now.
