I actually feel really bad about both sexual assault victims and the falsely accused. Not only because the act or the accusation itself is horrific, but especially because it's so bloody difficult to prove either way. As a result, it really taints a person in the eyes of others whether he's guilty or not.
I read a bit on the case. One of them, her testimony's contradictions, anachronisms, etc. could not have been explained just by poor memory or memory lapse. Or not so easily. Fair enough, possibly memory lapse, but it pushed the limits of credulity though.
That said, sometimes both are guilty. For example, a person sexually assaults another and the victim exaggerates in court. In that case, both are guilty. One did assault the other and the other did make a false accusation by exaggerating the testimony.
Proof of a false accusation does not in itself prove the innocence of the accused. It's bloody complicated. In one case in the US, a woman accused a man of sexually assaulting her only for him to then not only deny the accusation but to then say that she actually sexually assaulted him.
You mean, wrangled into flubbing her testimony by a clever shyster? She should have been charged for being an air head. That one was Canada's very own OJ Simpson case.
