Is it necessary for cops to use lethal force against a guy with a knife?

25 feet huh? lol Quarter of a cent ...... ipede.

That's a lot of shoes.

Also lots of socks.

Anyway, I spose it would make a diff if the cop was packing a shotgun or a handgun. I mean a load of 00 could take a leg off but not necessarily kill a guy and it would sure as hell stop him.
Basically if the police are drawing on you and telling you to drop your weapon, raise your hands and not make any sudden movements, it would be wise to follow those instructions.

Even though there were barriers to him being able to attack them from 25 feet (turn to go down the steps, out the door, turn again, etc) just making a movement that's suspicious (and let's face it, anything not really slow mo and explicitly as instructed is probably going to come off as suspicious) is enough to get you killed. I mean, isn't that essentially how people commit "suicide by cop"?

Or pepperspray and a taser if they don't want proximity?

More often we see these situations where a gun was used. Give the Officers the proper equipment needed to prevent this situations.
A Taser does not always work, same with pepper spray, but the gun should normally be the last consideration.

I wonder if they ever tried both pepperspray and taser.

Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.......
wow What sage advice Dr. Jones Jr.

Problem with pepper spray is it has to hit the face / eyes. Also some people have a high tolerance / resistance to pepper spray, rare but there are cases.

Same with an addict high on certain drugs. They can take 6 - 8 officers on in a fight and still lay out a ton of injuries on the officers.

I agree and throw in some batons to top it off.
It appears the Officer acted to quickly. I say appears as we do not have all the information.
Reason why he shot is not clear- 3 shots then followed by 6 more If I recall- The guy was on the bus alone.

Video has been enhanced and cleaned up- 1st video- 00.41

In a police state, by all means, people are shot when they don't obey orders.

Thank god, my country, is NOT a police state.

People like Durry are the loudest to scream if their rights are violated.
A young man is dead, why, he did not appear to be a threat. Answers why this man is dead are required.
No BS. Just answers.

Some police instructors have commented that the physical and educational criteria has been lowered for admittance to police academy. Something has changed drastically in their behavior and mannerisms.

Part of what's changed is that they seem to have switched gears from 'keeping the peace', to 'ruling the inmates'. It's no longer a protector mentality, it's a 'boss' mentality.
