Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old travel blogger whose death was ruled a homicide by authorities in a case that has gripped America, had told police about a domestic dispute with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie, CNN reported on Friday.

The network cited additional bodycam footage from a responding officer from August which it said provides further insight into the couple’s troubles.

Petito’s boyfriend, whom police had sought in connection with her death during their cross-country road trip, was charged last week with fraudulently using her bank debit card. Petito and Laundrie embarked on their trip in June in her van, posting videos along the way on social media.

A search warrant was issued for Laundrie, 23, after a grand jury in Wyoming indicted him on a single count of unlawfully using the card and Petito’s personal identification number. He was not charged in her death.

The latest footage from August, obtained by CNN, provided a glimpse into the troubles between Petito and Laundrie. The video is more than 52 minutes long and includes Petito telling officers that while Laundrie had hit her, she hit him first, CNN reported.

Police were not immediately available for comment.

Police in Utah stopped the couple’s van on Aug. 12 after receiving a complaint about a domestic disturbance. The hour-long roadside encounter, in which the two were questioned separately, did not result in charges against either of them. Police had earlier released a separate video of the encounter as well.

Petito’s family reported her missing on Sept. 11. Ten days earlier Laundrie had returned home from the trip without her. He has since gone missing.

Petito’s body was discovered in September in a remote area of Bridger-Teton National Forest, in western Wyoming.

The couple — who appeared Tuesday on Dr. Phil — lambasted Laundrie as a “coward” and claimed he’s living off the grid as he avoids a massive nationwide manhunt.

Laundrie, 23, is the sole person of interest in the 22-year-old Long Islander’s disappearance and murder. Petito was found dead in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on Sept. 19 after being reported missing on Sept. 11.

“He’s a coward,” her father, Joe Petito, said in a preview clip of the show.

Her mom, Nichole Schmidt, supports the theory he’s living off the land: “I believe he bragged about that stuff, that he was good at that stuff.”

Petito’s stepfather, Jim Schmidt, said: “Turn yourself in. You’re only making it worse. For us and for himself. Let us have some closure.”

The family also blasted Laundrie’s parents for their suspected involvement in his run from justice. His folks had claimed he went for a hike and then didn’t return but they failed to tell cops for three days.

“One of the texts was ‘I’m going to call the police, so let me know.’ No response. A normal parent, when you text someone that they’re going to call the cops because you can’t find your child, they would reply,” Joe Petito said.

“We thought they were both missing at that point in time when we were calling them.”

Schmidt added: “We didn’t know the van was in Florida when we contacted (them). I was worried about both of them.”

Meanwhile, Laundrie’s sister says she doesn’t know if her parents helped her brother evade cops.

Cassie Laundrie addressed protesters outside her Florida home and said she was frustrated by the case.

“We are just as upset, frustrated and heartbroken as everyone else,” she said, according to video of the conversation obtained by TMZ.

And the murder, manhunt and disappearances have divided the Laundrie family.

So did mom and dad help baby brother get away? “I don’t know,” she said.

The 23-year-old is considered the prime suspect in the disappearance and murder of YouTuber Gabby Petito, 22.

And he’s disappeared, possibly with the assistance of his embattled parents.

Just three days after Long Island native Petito vanished at a national park in Wyoming where her remains were eventually discovered, Laundrie used her bank card, her family’s lawyer says.

Petito was last seen at a restaurant in Wyoming on Aug 27. Laundrie, 23, had returned home alone to Florida in her van on Sept. 1. After refusing to cooperate with cops, he then disappeared.

“You can look at his state of mind by his actions,” lawyer Richard Stafford told Dr. Phil.

“He ran, he stole her credit card, he used her credit card to get home, and then ran from the police. That’s going to show a lot what he was thinking back then.”

Laundrie has been described by the feds as the prime suspect in Petito’s murder and they issued an arrest warrant for him on Sept. 23. But by then, he was in the wind.

Stafford claimed that Laundrie tallied around $1,000 on the cards.

According to cops, Laundrie’s parents told police he went on a hike in a Florida conservation area on Sept. 14 and did not return. They waited three days to inform detectives.

Late Tuesday, the Laundrie family lawyer said it’s now believed the fugitive left his parents’ home a day earlier.

Gabby Petito, 22, was strangled to death, according to Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue.

And the manner of death is confirmed as a homicide.

In a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Blue announced the cause and manner of the young victim’s death, explaining that the laws in Wyoming prevent him from offering much more information.

Asked for a time of death, Blue said her body had been in the wilderness for three or four weeks before it was discovered on Sept. 19 in Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming.

He confirmed she was not pregnant and said DNA samples had been taken from her body.

It took a month for autopsy results, Blue stated, because, “We were very exacting in our examination and we were waiting for various specialists to come in and help us.

“We were waiting on toxicology and it was a matter of making sure we had everything right.”

He explained that he could not comment on whether or not Petito’s finance, Brian Laundrie, had been confirmed as the prime subject, noting that only law enforcement could comment on those matters.

However, Blue did make a reference to “domestic violence” later in the conference.

Wyoming law was again cited as the reason no details would be forthcoming on what tell-tale signs of strangulation — bruising, hyoid bone fracture, or the like — could be revealed.

Gabby Petito, 22 and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, 23, were on a road trip through the U.S. and documenting their journey on social media.

Laundrie returned to Florida to his parent’s house, where he and Petito had lived together, without her. She was reported missing on Sept. 11.

Despite her parents’ pleas, neither Laundrie nor his parents would answer questions about Petito’s whereabouts. There were two eyewitness reports of the couple fighting (on Aug. 12 and Aug. 27) while they were on their road trip.

Laundrie vanished from his parents’ home soon after Petito was reported missing; he was being watched by police in North Port, Fla. but slipped away.

Gabby Petito, the young woman who vanished on a road trip with her boyfriend and later turned up dead in Wyoming, was killed by strangulation, a local coroner said on Tuesday.

Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue, whose office had already ruled Petito’s death a homicide, said she was killed about three to four weeks before her body was found on Sept. 19. Her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, 23, has been missing for nearly a month.

Petito, 22, was last seen alive on Aug. 26. Her body was discovered on Sept. 19 near the remote Spread Creek Dispersed Campground in Bridger-Teton National Forest in western Wyoming.

The disappearance last month of the young woman during a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend captivated the country, first as an internet sensation and then as a tabloid mystery that grew more enigmatic by the day.

Petito and Laundrie, who lived with Laundrie’s parents in North Port on Florida’s west coast, embarked on their trip in early July from New York’s Long Island, where her parents live.

As they travelled through Kansas, Colorado, Utah and points west, Petito documented their “van life” on social media with videos and pictures that depicted a loving couple having an American adventure. She posted her final photo to Instagram on Aug. 25, the same day she last spoke to her mother by phone.

Laundrie returned without her on Sept. 1 to his family’s North Port home driving Petito’s white van. Ten days later, Petito’s mother, Nicole Schmidt, reported her missing to police in New York.

With the search becoming more public after Florida police named Laundrie a person of interest in the case, police in Moab, Utah, released bodycam footage on Sept. 15 that suggested a darker side to the couple’s sunny social media veneer.

After a caller reported seeing Laundrie striking Petito, Moab police pulled over their van on Aug. 12 and questioned them for more than an hour. Both acknowledged having argued, and Petito tearfully said she had struck Laundrie on the arm.

No charges were filed, but police ordered the two to stay in separate lodgings for the night.

Laundrie, who had refused to talk to North Port police on the advice of his lawyer, has not been seen since Sept. 14, when his parents later said he told them he was going for a hike in the nearby Carlton Reserve wilderness area.

Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, using divers, tracking dogs and helicopters, have turned up no sign of him in the swampy, alligator-infested wilderness area.

On Sept. 23, a federal grand jury in Wyoming indicted Laundrie on a charge of fraudulently using Petito’s bank debit card between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 to spend $1,000 or more.

He has not been charged in her death.

Did Brian Laundrie trudge up the Appalachian Trail? Unlikely.

He had money. Time. Parents who could have aided and abetted his escape and he had a lot of motivation.

I’d flee the country to somewhere without an extradition treaty with the U.S. Warm, sunny, cheap, no questions asked.

Why go for a weeks-long hike when you can get on a plane and escape to freedom in a matter of hours?

The 23-year-old Florida man is a person of interest in the investigation into the disappearance and murder of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito, 22, at a Wyoming campsite where her remains were found weeks after she was strangled to death.

As has been reported, the pair were chronicling their trip around the U.S. in a van when things went off the rails and the bubbly Long Island woman wound up dead and Laundrie hunted.

Now, one of Laundrie’s childhood buddies claims that he has wanted to live outside the U.S. since he was in high school. He was reported missing on Sept. 17 from his parents’ Florida home.

That was a staggering three days after they last saw him. More than enough time to get a big jump on cops.

“I think he’d be able to put the resources together to get out of the country, either illegally or under some sort of a fake identification,” the friend, who didn’t wish to be named, told the U.K. Sun.

“He’s the type of person that would be able to drop everything to secure his means of not being captured and to evade arrest or evade prosecution from what seems to be a pending crime.”

One of those hiding spots could be somewhere in Africa, Laundrie’s friend said, adding that the fugitive’s favourite director is Neill Blomkamp, who helmed the movies Chappie , Elysium , and District Nine.

“Blomkamp is from South Africa,” the friend said. “That’s a country that Brian was talking about a lot because that was one of his favorite genres of movies. Two of those three movies took place in South Africa.”

Laundrie also likes New Zealand because of his affinity for the Lord of the Rings movies.

His buddy added: “So I’m sure if he had the time and the resources in a few years, and he really needed to get away from this issue, that’s probably somewhere he would end up.”

Laundrie had told his parents he was going for a hike in a conservation area near their Florida home. His Ford Mustang was found 26 kilometres from where he was last seen.

If I was laying down cash on Laundrie’s whereabouts, my pick would be Mexico, the Caribbean or parts unknown in Latin America.

This debacle reminds of the Ethan Crouch affluenza case in Texas.

Remember Crouch? He was the teen rich-kid drunk driver who killed four people with nine more injured. Another kid is in a wheelchair for life.

His lawyers argued that he was so spoiled rotten, he suffered from something called “affluenza” and because he was rich didn’t know the difference between right and wrong. Cue the tap on the wrist.

After video emerged of Crouch breaching conditions of his probation, he and his mother high-tailed it over the border to Mexico where they were later busted.

The FBI confirmed Thursday that remains found in a Florida conservation area are those of missing fugitive Brian Laundrie.

The Florida man had been the subject of a massive manhunt following the murder of his girlfriend Gabby Petito.

“On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creed Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie,” the agency said in a statement.

The feds did not say how Laundrie died or whether it was by his own hand.

Police morgues are filled with Jane and John Does who simply went into the woods to die or end the misery that their lives had become.

And so it is with Brian Laundrie, 23 years old forever.

For most of the past two months, Laundrie and his girlfriend Gabby Petito have been leading the news. She was cute, bubbly and blond, he was handsome, and they were doing something everyone dreams of: Getting in a van and hitting the road.

But there were some bumps that were worsening by early August. By then the couple was fighting, their nerves rubbed raw.

First, it was a search for pretty YouTuber Gabby who had vanished in Wyoming as the pair traipsed the country in a van and recorded their adventures. Laundrie and his parents appeared noticeably unhelpful as cops looked for answers.

On Sept. 19, searchers found the remains of Petito at a campsite in a Wyoming national park. Verdict? Murder. She had been strangled to death.

But by then, Laundrie — now named as the sole person of interest — had also vanished. Was he hiking up the Appalachian Trail? Had he fled the country? Where was he?

Chris and Roberta Laundrie weren’t saying but their assistance in finding their son’s belongings — and remains — flies in the face of whispers they helped their son escape or were withholding information.

“The fact they may have led investigators to their son’s possessions and possibly his remains — that all undercuts the argument that they were aiding and abetting his escape,” lawyer Neama Rahmani told The UK Sun. “That leads me to believe they’ve been cooperative and not the other way around.”

But the lawyer also believes Laundrie was involved in his girlfriend’s murder. As days turned into weeks, a less than flattering portrait emerged of him.

Still, even with the discovery of Laundrie’s remains, closing the Petito murder case may never come, strong assumptions and a stack of circumstantial evidence aside.

“I’m sure Gabby Petito’s family wants some sort of closure, but if Brian Laundrie is dead, this is as good as it’s going to get,” Rahmani said.

The lawyer is right. Her parents will never know why the beloved 22-year-old Long Island woman was murdered by someone who was “supposed to care for her.”

We will also never know what was going through Brian Laundrie’s troubled mind in the days leading up to the disappearance and death of Gabby Petito.

On Thursday, what was billed as the final photos of the doomed couple at Arches National Park in Utah on Aug. 10 were published in the New York Post.

“They stood out because they had the ‘van life’ look to them and I remember feeling envious because they seemed like enthusiasts,” the photographer who captured the images wrote, adding they “exchanged friendly nods” as they were leaving.
