ES, you yorself admit that the invasion of Iraq was (and not putting words in your mouth, so I add "to some extent") a mistake of sorts. Why is it so hard for you to understand that some mistakes can NOT be fixed. Sometimes the only course is to admit you were wrong and do EVERYTHING in you power to maek sure you never allow such things to happen again.

I do think we pulled the trigger too quick. I had misgivings before the invasion but once we committed I believed and still do believe that it had to be seen to it's conclusion.

Now there can be a victory in Iraq. You may not want there to be but there can be. If there is a victory in Iraq the ones that are just so hell bent on seeing us fail will never admit to it. The fact of the matter is that we are getting closer to that goal. Things are calming down. Troops and civillian deaths have dropped, overall violence has dropped. Now sure...you can hunt for an article from Global Research about something happeneing and this or that guy saying we lost but you will always get that.

A few years ago violence in Iraq was insane. Two, three, four bombs going off in Baghdad a day. But since the Sunni Awakening and the failure of Al-Queda in Iraq to get their civil war things have got better. You won't ever admit it, I won't expect you to...but they have.

So like Prax said, the US has already totally failed, no-one is hoping for that. Many folks ARE hoping that eventually the reality will be countenanced, is all. You can write victory on an abysmal failure, but it remains a failure, and only the brainwashed will not see it as a gussied-up failure

There will always be the Prax and Mabs of the world. Hey you're entitled to believe what you want and have your own opinion. I say to you... you can write failure on a victory. You can call us brainwashed. It doesn't mean anything to me. I can say that you are as well and no matter what happens you will see it as a failure.

Zzarchov- I seriously believe that the imbalance created by the US occupation IS to blame for the violence currently taking place. I have no proof of course, BUT this kind of violence was NOT occurring under Saddam. The "Iraqis killing Iraqis" seems to be based on the US throwing the whole country to profiteers, factions who have no real argument with each other are vying to avoid being left out of the phoney system the US has installed. Nobody wants to be a loser, right, and sometimes the only way to win is to elimitae your opposition from the field
Genocide?? He killed a bunch of people in a town from which an assisination attempt originated, during a time of war, that was the only thing he was actually convicted of. I am in no wise defending him, I know he was responsible for atrocities, but his crimes don't excuse those of others. The US invasion of Iraq must also be considered genocide if Saddam is guilty of same, just cos the Kurds live in a region of Iraq and not a separate country doesn't make them more important or distinct than the overall population of that country

ES- I can't argue, you see things totaly differently than me, all's I'm saying is that I have a hard time being able to see what victory would mean- the best I can do is to say that in my view, the whole campaign is totally illegal, so I find the search for a measure of "victory" to be kind of deplorable, like hoping someone could successfully molest someone- the only "victory" I see is avoiding the whole scenario in the first place, once it got underway it was a shameful crime that would remain so the entire time it and anything to DO with it was occurring
