Why are you so offended by this simple truth?

Truth? from you? yeah right. You are filled with hatred and you mind is blocked with preconceived ideas. Go and see a shrink when you have time to think.

Yea a friend of mine was in a gas station and a group of arabs starting cheering...cabbies at our airport cheered as well...nice. real nice.

sorry matty, but your prejudice is showing.

the dancing on the streets and what some arabs expressed might just be how they have felt about the US for some time.

it goes back to how the ME views the US , how the US favors Israel, and sucks up to Arabia . US favoritism , bias has played a role in the anger in the ME.

Human nature being what it is.....anger ,resentment being what it is ......is bound to express itself. deal with it. and more important UNDERSTAND it......the reasons are very important when assessing this ......without getting "emotional " about it.

That's my point to our american frriend. I was explaining to him that many people in this country bypassed the empathy for the US and went straight to the "reasons" for 9-11.

To make the ME look bad, they pointed the cameras at a few kids in Gaza dancing. Don't you think the people of the ME (other than OBL and Iraq) felt the sorrow. Yes they did as much as any human being would feel at that time.

I have a hard time believing that. Anyone who would go around cheering at a gas station after Sept. 11th would probably have been beaten. Although, I wasn't in Canada, if that is where you were, so I wouldn't know how everyone acts there and how Canadians would treat people doing that(although I know alot wouldn't deal with it). In the US though, if someone was doing that after Sept. 11th, they would probably have catched a pretty bad beating.

No.Canadians are passive and lame. Nobody did anything, nor does that surprise me.

There is a certain relativeness here though. I mean, in my head, I can't really picture someone from another country, even a country as close to the US as Canada, feeling as strongly as an American would have felt when it happened. Now, I can see people feeling sad, shocked, and those types of things, but being from the actual country that had it happened, I think you feel a bit different. I mean, you just said Canadians are passive and lame because they do nothing, but didn't you say it was your friend who heard them, yet he did nothing. Basically, you just called your friend passive and lame.

Preconcieved? take a look in the mirror buddy. You can't even fathom that people from the ME would cheer 9-11 because they are all wonderful, great people rright? lol. YOU are the one with the proconceived notions. OPen your mind, buddy. I am sorry the truth has offended your preconception of reality.

I agree. I couldn't even go the the towers in Burnaby for work that day. I am an Arab and proud to be one. However, I cried on sept. 11th. Maybe my memories when i was a kid being bombarded with cruise missiles and i was hiding under my bed. But i felt a lot of pain for the people and their families.

You yourself said a group of people were cheering on video...so why do you find it so hard to believe that it happened elsewhere?

I think people cheering in the street on some PR video by the media is different than people cheering in a western nation. It could have happened elsewhere, but I know that if it happened in the US, that person would be in a bad situation. I mean, there's idiots everywhere in the world, and being an idiot crosses boundries of race, but even if a small group of people at a gas station did as you say, that doesn't mean that everyone was.

that is YOUR perception. Don't lay it as gospel fact on everyone else.

furthermore.......why wouldn't Canada start examining the reasons.........that is the first thing anyone does (or should do) when something terrible happens....( after the initial shock) examining the reasons more carefully and completely is what the US should have done too.

I didn';t say everyone was. I am simply stating a real experience that happened and I am being attacked on all sides for relaying it. What a joke. If I told the same story about americans being hearless and cruel, you people would all lap it up in a minute

I had the pleasure of being an Arab and a Canadian. So I know both cultures and I have no preconceived ideas. You, on the other hand have a tendency of hating Arabs. It is all over your posts. Don't forget what the US did to the Arabs and don't blame all Arabs for what they are doing in return. I don't think you even had an Arab friend. Until you befriend them, keep quiet.

No one is defending terrorism. Killing is never right, especially of civilians who probably didn't even know/care about the middle east or what the government was doing. Of course there are terrible people everywhere, but the US likes to play the good guy, and actually has the power to do as they please which makes them even more dangerous than most those people.

I didn';t say everyone was. I am simply stating a real experience that happened and I am being attacked on all sides for relaying it.

fair enough........but it is not fair to generalize from a few asshole 'Arabs" behavior. There are assholes in every country, every culture etc. Fortunately they are the minority.

that is simple common sense, for gosh sakes.

Now, if you have a personal prejudice against them......then that is a different situation entirely and it is likely that you will lump them all together ........and not mind them being killed, maimed , tortured etc.

Don't presume to tell me that I hate ANYONE. One thing I do not have tolerance for is being called a bastard for telling the truth. I don't care what your heritage is, if you choose not to accept the truth about a tragic situation, then keep it to yourself rather than hurling insults. Don't think I am going to hold back telling you how ignorant you sound just because you have an Arab background my friend. I call it as I see it and your overreaction is uncalled for.

I am not generalizing!!! Are we so hypersensitive in this country that I can't state a fact "some Arab people were cheering in a gas station" without being accuse of bigotry? That is a simple statement of fact. What a joke how utterly irrational can some people be???
