The problem is that when the US is "softening the place up" they are killing innocents and destroying any chance of making a living that those who survive may have had. You cannot win a war that because the citizenry turns firmly against you.

Kinda sad to see how HUMAN BEINGS can be reduced to "collateral damage" or "casualties". This (IMHO ) is inhumanity at its worst. But it seems ,that when it comes to power, greed, control, .....humans don't count. They are just an obstacle that must be destroyed......or "converted" into followingthe attackers propaganda. ie......simply aquiese / appease the invading nation and then allow the invading nation to "control" them.

Imagine all the historical buildings, culture ( of such duration) being destroyed......looted. It is not only the people being killed, but giving a nation (Iraq) a whole new "culture". Iraq can never be "Iraq" again......with the wealth of history, culture it had before. The Americans have left giant footprints all over Iraq now........and that cannot be reversed.

The entire region may need a political overhaul but that is not for the U.S., or any other nation to decide. It is something that only the people can decide. The 'oppressed majority' in Iraq FAR outnumbered the ruling party, if the people wanted a change, they had the numbers to do it (along with a few neigbours who'd love to see Iraq destabalised). Many would have died but that choice would have been theirs.

So far 100 000+ Iraqis have died in this latest invasion and for what? A civil war they could have started on their own and likely have preserved most of their cultural artifacts, historical documents and infrastructure in the process. By comparison it seems a better method than an unprovoked invasion.

Read some (unrevised) history, Iraq was in better shape than their neighbours on all fronts yet they get picked on? Makes sense to me. Pick most any African nation and chances are the human rights abuses in Iraq are paled.

AQ was virtually non-existant in Iraq pre-Gulf War v.2.0. Saddam and OBL despise each other. Think Northern Ireland; Prot. vs. RC. That's what their relationship amounted to. BushCo. are the ones that would have you believe that because they are both Arabs that they must be in bed together. How naive and simplistic.

The disenchanted, as you call them, may turn to terrorism but from your statement, it would be against Saddam's governance, not the West.

And the US being a tad fanatical in the "religious " dept .....adopted this as their new "cause" .......and bringing "good will" to Iraq via bombs , guns, .....and the war package. But you see, they are on a 'higher cause" now...... and don't much care how one achieves it. This fits well, because the gladiators are HEROS and protecting them .......from a far off nation that was no threat to them. ANd they feel ....in their blind arrogance ......that it is THEIR job to bring the cause of "Freedom/democracy to the world over now........ as irrational fanatical crusaders do.

Of course the media is in concert with these efforts, and per instructions from the big boss in Washington , is not even allowed to show photos of coffins (troops) coming home. After all, we can't have these crusaders see the negative part of all this......can we?? They just might turn against the crusade.....and where will the emperor be then.??

So the killing goes on, terrorists infiltrate Iraq and then we have a string of kidnappings and beheadings. Oh the angst , so the US calls them babarians and a few other choice adjectivess, neglecting to address the fact that it was THEM that created the environment for all this tragedy to occur. Ya see the US (G) never takes responsibility for anything negative.....(consequences) , it is always projected onto the "other guy"......and heck terrorists are convenient now. BUT each time some small positive takes place.......it is blared via the media for the world to see until it gets sick of the repetition and gloating.

A client of mine working at a major telephone company in the middle east works in a 12 story building with no women's washrooms (women can't work). This is a barbaric region.
