The war is between Trump & Iran (& Israel I guess), anyway, regional leaders eager to stop another round of escalation in the Persian Gulf phoned Trump on Thursday and pressed him to call off the attacks, saying a deal was close at hand as long as he stopped the strikes and “held off on social media,” people familiar with the matter said.

They were shocked when Trump suddenly announced a deal had been done, they said. Countries that have been mediating the talks didn’t confirm Trump’s optimism in their formal comments. Qatar, a mediator, acknowledged progress in the talks but said they were continuing.

Egypt thanked the president for calling off the strikes he had threatened just hours earlier and said it hoped the combatants would seize the opening to strike a deal to end the war. Pakistan welcomed the progress that had been achieved. Happy Friday!!
