Internet restored in Egypt
Posted via Canadian Content

At around 10:30GMT (4:30am EST), Internet service appears to have been restored in Egypt amid protests in key cities throughout the country, likely tripped by the collapse of the 30-year regime in Tunisia.

Internet service in the country was originally disrupted by the ruling government after online social networking sites were found have been the platform originally used to organize anti-government riots across Egypt.

Mobile phone networks also appear to have been restored after access has been intermittent as the government attempted to restore order through a communications black-out.

Popular social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook may still be blocked though Twitter and Google have collaborated in offering an International telephone number to include updates to Twitter.

Twitter has been host to tens of thousands of anti-government 'followers' during civil unrest and is being attributed to helping organize protesters in major cities.

Well at least they're starting to realize that an attempt at blocking communication is only going to be met with further opposition. Hopefully someone with Egypt's best interest at heart (not the Muslim Brotherhood) will emerge to keep the Country from slipping into a state of chaos and anarchy.

Chaos and anarchy? I thought you said it would be slipping into tyranny. As long as it dosn't slip into democracy eh. I'll bet that if the Brotherhood got elected in a democratic election you would suggest a western invasion to provide stability in the best interest of democracy for the Egyptian people.

Well that's because you're a pin head and a lousy gambler. I no more want war in Egypt than you want to shut your yap and listen to common sense, but what the hay. Here goes: I would suggest you look at models like the Former Yugoslavia, Iran, Romania.

What Egypt needs is a moderate progressive governing party, unfortunately at this juncture the only frontrunner they have to the present government is The Muslim Brotherhood. What will result from the government being overthrown will result in a power struggle that could very well destabilize the entire region. Still with me? I am sure that the people of Egypt want an honest government to represent them and I would like to see every Country in the Arab region become a democracy and have them embrace education and progressive values, but the unfortunate thing about revolution is that it becomes a grab for power by every tin pot wannabe.

We'll see how this unfolds Darkbeaver and no matter I'm sure you and a couple of others will be cheering on the sidelines as the body count rises blaming Western values as the cause.

Some advice for you. If you are totally confused, just bitch about how the West invaded Iraq and we can dispense with any further discussion which might embarrass you.

Isn't it "western values" that have supported the despot for the last 30 years? Isn't it "western values" that the people are rising up against? Western values have supported just about every despot on the planet for the last 100 years. What the hell are western values anyway? Do we want more western backed puppet "democracies" like Iraq and Afghanistan? Something is seriously wrong in the world when the two opposing political powers are just as bad as one another. Just because people are not on our side does not automatically make them evil. Maybe they are just tired of our interference in their lives. It is too bad that we have become so polarized that we have killed off any other choices people might have.

Egypt had a visionary leader named Anwar Sadat, who modernized his Country, brokered peace with Israel and for his sins he was killed by fundamentalists.

Sadat and Mubarak were twins.

There you go. Well done! [Insert thumbs up smiley here]

Thus endeth the lesson.

I'm waiting for the list of western values.

Yeah, like cheeze burger and TV worship. Where is this famous list of western values the world just can't live without?
