International Human Rights Rank Indicator

I tripped across this while discounting the claim on CBC by some idiot commentator that Israel was the most brutal nation on earth...........but the ranking is interesting on a number of fronts.

Countries are rated on a number of different human rights issues, (view them on the right side of the home page) then ranked by overall score from number one to number 216.

On the top bar of the home page, click "countries" to see the ranking top to bottom.

Norway is number one.

Canada is number 10. (pretty damn good!!)

The USA is number 20. (still not bad)

Israel is number 61. (not so great)

Palestine (West Bank and Gaza combined) is number 87.

As for Israel's other neighbours:

Jordan is number 103.

Egypt is number 121.

Lebanon is number 125.

Syria is number 211.

Interesting........

This report must be a farce, Cuba is ranked 115th :).
Turks & Caicos is ranked 188th, you better reconsider annexation, it'll bring down your rating dramatically.

Actually looking over the list of 'rights' used to measure each nation, I have to say it does fill me with a certain amount of pride to note that every single one listed is a clear right afforded to each citizen here in Canada. I would say, if anything, where we need improvement is to do more to see that those rights are applied equitably. Which is a far cry from some nations where a good number of those rights don't exist at all for their citizens.

It's good to be Canadian.

Interesting facts:

Of the top 50 countries:

48 are majority Christian, one Muslim (a surprise), and one officially atheist. (China, number forty-eight)

cause they're the ones doing the oppressing

Perhaps you should go look at the chart again..........

Actually, I think the reason is fairly simple.

A disproportionate number of decent democracies are Christian (modern democracy sprang from Christianity and Deism, which is simply the same religion without acknowledging the divinity of Christ)

Democratic free nations do not go to war with each other.

That simple.
