If you feel you are supportive to the Native plight and work to bring them to equality, you too believe they are inferior and can't do it on their own.

Are you guys allowed to own your own houses on the rez? In Canada, that's not the case, which I think is the root of a bunch of problems.

That and all the corruption in the band councils. Gotta be infuriating to live in a shack when the Chief and his close family all have mansions.

Among the biggest problems that Canadian FN's have to deal with is their own leadership.

I need not remind you of examples like Attiwapiskat and Theresa Spence
Are they adopting too many of the whiteman's ways. Not too up of who did what but the details I have read were it was as corrupt as it could get, that would include the few Indians that were part of it.

Taking the Canadian Govt to court over treaty issues is foolish at best. 20 years and $100M was the last time a case was heard in Canada. Nobody won and everybody lost, is that really the best we can do??

I dunno, some properties of NB have Riparian rights, which cannot be taken away, even though the gov't has tried.
Isn't that to do with the rights of people whose property borders a stream to use the water in the stream?
Martial Law null and voids everything Civil Law covers. It takes about 5 minutes to invoke it.

Even the whiteman's rights in Canada have been tampered with by the English Crown. The Provinces and Territories were made Sovereign. Yet we were still the first to back England in two major wars. That might be 'kind' of us but it is not the act of a sovereign Nation, it is the act of a colony.

Property rights used to include dept to mean any depth. Now a farmer as possession of the top 6 inches. Should a line of some sort need to cross his land it does and he is compensated. If he resists the courts cost are high enough to bankrupt him and the next owner lets the utility go through with little to no damage these days. Mineral rights are no longer included when a property changes owners and Reserves still hold some of the better spots as far as easy access goes and that is what the push is about today as it transfers the title to the Government and they make sweetheart deals for big oil.

The Crown owns all.
The Crown (Queen of England) is not the top of the food-chain, even if the Crown you are referencing is the Crown of London which are the bosses of the English Royalty they are still not the top.

Then why doesn't the crown get the tax bill?
A better question is why are 'they' charging us $30B/year in interest fees on a debt that should be interest free??

If a person who works in a company town is able to hire a servant does that mean he in no longer a slave??

When exactly was that?
I don't remember when my grandfather got his homestead, 1920ish.
Slant drilling would have solved that aspect.

Same concept with the Reserves, they got surface, water and mineral rights. They would own the water in any lake or aquifer under the lake. I'm going to hazard guess they have been paid pennies on the dollar for what has been extracted.

Since North American Treaties are the base for how things are the the Indians should take full advantage of the few special rights they were left with. There is a restriction on an Indian using his treaty rights to get an advantage to create a business off the Reserve. Why not use the rights to gain an advantage on running businesses that take advantage of local resources. Rather than try and put 1,000 through school and then hire you start up a consulting company with less than 5 executives who are well qualified to be sitting in those chairs and the wheel and deal as a General Contractor for the contracts that use existing business already around in the Country the Reserve is located in. The rest of the Band might have to find something to do that keeps their shareholder cheques circulating through the Reserve and the Community. A Costco imitation on the Reserve would put the dollar stores out of business and it's profits stay in the county so the only ones missing are are those who work on Wall St.

Wellness centers could branch out into areas that private hospitals cannot go just for insurance reasons. The patient does not have the option signing a waiver to take the treatment behind door #2. That option alone would mean the size of the complex would almost be a village by itself, and not many repeat patients.
Whiteman's laws were intentionally written with loopholes that let the writers gain an unfair advantage somewhere down the road. The other treaties were just broken as no law would support the understanding that would be needed to allow something to to be done (against the Indians most likely)
If you can't beat them then join them just means using their own devices against them. It does not mean you have to become the same liars (or worse) they are.

Forensic accounting of the Indian Affairs dept for the last 100 years is probably something that could be done and done quite accurately. Enron like activities should stand out like big flags. That would show what is wrong that that goes a long way to having an outcome that is fair to both sides. The current mode it to make Reserves a thing of the past by disqualifying anybody from being a member. Try promoting that at the UN when it comes to who qualifies for citizenship in Israel. It also allows conversion if the blood-line is not strong enough. Homeless and other desolate people may find life on a Reserve less stressful than downtown Winnerpeg. That would also solve a problem for the big centers that creates more expense than it creates. That still leaves the city lots of richer addicts so the drug trade will not be decimated. Reserves should be able to supply the addicts with drugs from their own warehouses. (imported from both Americas)
