If I was Prime Minister, one of my main goals would be to ensure that every Canadian...black, white, male, female, straight, gay, French, English...is treated equally before the law. It would be a monumental task as there are many people opposed to these ideals in the country.

If I was Prime Minister, I would convert Canada from bi-lingualism to multilingualism.

Because it would quickly become obvious that we simply can not print umpteen dozen languages on our soup cans, and traffic signs just to kiss Quebec's arse.

Doesn't surprise me at all that you would do something monumentally stupid with tax payers money.

The Trans Canada Highway doesn't go within 100 km of Halifax, but there is a decent highway to get you there.

All the more reason that it should. A 'decent' highway should not be good enough for Canada. A Trans Canada Highway should be four lanes, without traffic lights from Halifax to Vancouver.

And don't tell me that scarcity of population does not warrant it. I have driven on I90, I94, I80 and other interstate highways in America where the population is just as scarce, and the speed limit was at least 70mph. (112km/h).

Right now, now one driving to Vancouver from Toronto and east would be out of his/her mind to drive on the TCH instead of through the States.

Your hate against Liberal is well noted. Thanks for sharing.

Also, supporting CBC is a good thing & preserves at least SOME of Canadian programmings, regardless whether you watch them or not. I appreciate their David Suzuki's Nature of Things and Other WONDERFUL documentaries they have created so far, without having to concern themselves about financial issues.

So please, take your CBC bashing Conservative ideals somewhere else please.

EDIT: Arrogance is bliss. Had to say it Lol.

If I were PM: I'd need a majority........

Oh Boy! :)

I'd reform the Senate by refusing to appoint anyone unelected.

I would commence the redistribution of seats in Parliament, and I would work towards the implementation of the preferential ballot.

I would encourage free votes, using the Whip only on matters of party platform policy and money bills.

I would encourage Private Member's Bills, and support those worthy of support.

I would expect my Ministers to answer clearly and thoroughly those questions put forth in Question Period that did not have national security implications.

As for policy:

I would cancel the Corporate Tax Cut.

I would raise the GST a point at least.

I would dispose of the CBC.

I would legalize the control growing, sale, and use of marijuana.........leaving it to the provinces to bring it under their institutions, like liquor......and I would subsequently reduce equalization payments in recognition of the massive tax influx from above.

I would use the federal money saved above to better finance both Medicare transfer payments and the Old Age Pension.

I would throw out the Firearms Act completely........and replace it with a simple licensing regimen.

I would fire the Human Rights Council, and eliminate the hate sections of the law.

I would move towards reform of the Indian Act, imposing both financial accountability and the ownership of private property.

I would freeze all MP benefits, payments, pensions for review and possible downgrading.....

I would eliminate almost completely gov't grants to NGOs that promote political views. (KAIROS would wind up owing ME money lol)

I would dump mandatory sentencing.

I would re-institute the death penalty for mass murders (individual convictions) and for severe acts of treason.

I would throw out the anti-terror law.

I would cut immigration.........hard. Immigrants that would be allowed in would be those of little means (NOT the most educated elites), and they would be expected to take up residence across the nation........

There would be (very comfortable) refugee camps, where refugees would remain, being given language and cultural training, until they were vetted by Canadian immigration.

There would be NO appeal system for non-Canadians under expulsion orders.

I would encourage financially an increase in Canadian birth rates.

The military would be well-supplied, paid, and trained.

I would re-state our support for our allies.

I would encourage a close economic and military treaty organization of the democratic English-speaking world (the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand......perhaps India)

I would thumb my nose at the United Nations, stopping just short of leaving the organization altogether.

Tasers would become "lethal force" (a personal beef)

The right of citizens to self-defense and defense of property would be recognized in "no retreat" legislation.

Just to start........

hey...I'm an old Reformer....could you tell? lol

And I'm not a politician......

Yeah, the Reformers all secretly opted into the pension plan when they use to scream and yell about it. One in particular is old Debbie Grey who quietly opted in after her husband got sick because it became something she needed.....too funny.

Btw, your platform is pretty liberal and old Tory policies.

Do you yell at yourself in the mirror?

I forgot education!

I'd institute a cross-country set of academic examinations for students of limited means to access scholarship money....lots of it.

The best must be educated without reference to their social class.

Damngrumpy, pretty good post, except that I am hurt that you dont know anything about the significance of the RAND formula and how its used to evaluate laws that violate our personal freedoms. For starters, IT ISN'T American.

You are a card carrying Liberal, aren't you?

dipper

I see no problem with a defined benefit pension as long as it isn't excessive and the numbers add up. Isn't that what CPP is in effect?

CPP has an unfunded liability that is quite high and will grow with baby boomers retiring.

I would like to add, in regard to education:

If I were Prime Minister (with a majority) I would ask all teachers in a secret vote if they want to belong to a union. My guess is that those who are teachers because they are DEDICATED, rather than for the freebie benefits, would vote NO. And those are the teachers I would like to teach my grandkids.

Those who favour unions would get from me what air traffic controllers got from Ronald Reagan, but with the beneficial advise for them to seek employment as longshoremen.
