I want to be an MP. What do I do?

The frustrating parts? Never being able to go anywhere without being 'at work'. Never having a holiday you can call your own.

Or so I've been told.
Ah, that's what I hear too. No wonder politicians have to get into extramarital relationships, and cocaine to spice up their lives.

So far I got the feeling that the Canadian democracy is corrupted, and inefficient. As an MP, I will only add to that inefficiency.

I will have to look into it. I think Conservative is the way to go. I live in NW, so it might be something like that.

As for Putin, I think he has more power. The guy is also extremely rich, and can control his people.

Are you pro-life or pro-choice? (gotta stir it up here)

No, but I am using my freedom before I join the party. Once I join the party, there won't be a me anymore. It will just be whatever the party wants it to be.
Dream big. Don't settle for becoming one of the sheep. Lead us to the promised land.

Oh, now it's getting a little clearer, it's the party you will be working for, not the constituents. I'm a little unclear how this is going to work. The "party" doesn't supply the votes.

I mean that I will respect the party's values, and use that to reach out to voters. Plus,, since I am young, I might have to bring some creativity into making it not another boring process.

I wan to be an MP because it is a respectable job. That is the truth. I am well versed, and am a good writer. I like the collaborative experience of working with others especially if it meant that I could communicate with people and get to know more about what they are looking from their government.

I know that I am crazy in what I said above, and that as an MP, I may be humiliated till I actually seek therapy, but it is something that I see myself doing. I also want to make my parents proud by amounting to something in life rather than just a nobody. Plus, the job is recession proof, and pays good pension. I guess I have mixed views on selfishness and selflessness.

Are you taking a piss at us here or what? :D

To tell you the truth, it started out with me trying to get some information, and getting to something. Now we are just keeping the forum alive. I don't mean to piss at you, but rather ask for your humble opinions.

In that case, I want to be a successful MP. I can be both as long as I don't get into scandals like Rahim Jaffer, or Ruby Dhalla.

I can lie, but if I were to secure a seat in the House of Parliament, then I will respect that. I live in a society, and that is why I follow its rules. Being an MP is the same thing.

A janitor is respectable, but we don't look at them the same way. I just like the work of MP's as they get to experience a lot, and have variety of things to do in their jobs.

So in other words, you want to be an MP to feed your ego and nothing more. Seriously, are you just full of sarcasm today or are you serious. For your sake and ours, I hope you're just pulling our legs tonight.

Not to be facetious or sarcastic I am going to advise you that none of the parties today have clear cut platforms or philosophies, Conservatives and Liberals are almost identical twins and the N.D.P. is like a fraternal triplet - if you follow me. They develop policies as necessary to hold on to power (and their generous pensions). If you are only 20 I would advise you to try a political science course, so at least you have something that seems intelligent to the average idiot to talk about. The real learning however is not gleaned from books. What is your occupation? It helps if you can show you've succeeded at running a business- if you haven't then all your talk is just ideology.

To tell you the truth, I am a dead man. I never really had a passion for anything. Its not like I could say that it has been a lifelong dream for me to be an MP. MP's have power, and I like the idea of that. I like the title, and the idea that I have that position where I worked my way up.

If you want me to explain it, I grew up poor. We used to live in a one bedroom house with five people in two mattresses. I could be a janitor, but it won't be quite as fulfilling.

That is exactly why I am a moderate. In Canada, there really is not a party that stands out in its virtue. I am a Sales Associate at a retail store, but have a technical diploma in Industrial Instrumentation Engineering Technology. I am also an affiliate marketer who relies on false advertising to sell other peoples products for commissions. I have lived in three different countries ranging from poverty stricken to ultra rich, so I can share a lot from my experience.

I would go with the Conservatives to increase my odds.

Hey, he wants to be PM some day, and if that's the case, the best way to go is to start out as a sheep and the louder he bleeps, the greater his chances.

Yeah, but the mob in most ridings likes MPs who bend over for the party.

Is that how Harper got to become a PM? He seems like a good, well balanced, family man, but his goals are to far in the future.
