First, the whole "they hate our freedoms" line is immature and naive. What they hate is the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the Americans sticking their nose in everything. Research one of the founders of what you would call Islamic Extremists: Qutb. Then turn off FOX news and read a few books on the history of Islam. This way Colpy, you may see the silliness in your George Bush lines.

The enemies of the believers may wish to change this struggle into an economic or political or racial struggle...This is not a political or economic or racial struggle. Had it been any of these, its settlement would have been easy...But essentially it is a struggle between beliefs...


Some enemies of Islam may consider it expedient not to take any action against Islam, if Islam leaves them alone...But Islam cannot agree to this (live in harmony with non-Muslims) unless they (infidels) submit to its authority by paying the jizyah...Indeed, Islam has the right to take the initiative (of Jihad). 
It (Islam) has the right to destroy all obstacles in the form of (un-Islamic) institutions and traditions that restrict man’s "freedom of choice" (Islam) . 
If we (Muslims) insist on calling Islamic Jihad a defensive movement, then we must change the meaning of the word ‘defense’ and mean by it ‘the defense of man’ against all those forces that limit his "freedom" (Islam).

Are you drunk? Qutb is talking about Muslim freedoms, not America's. The defence of man against all those forces that limit his freedom was in reference to the British and American antagonization of Israels' occupation in Palestine. Nice try in supporting Colpy's position though!

Freedom, if you are female, to be a slave of men, to be kept from male company not your relatives, to be cloaked in tent-like devices, and to be murdered at the whim of some male relative who feels you have damaged the family honour?

Freedom if you are male to believe exactly as you are instructed by the immam, to be whipped into the mosque at times of prayer, to risk fatwas and a death sentence if you voice or write opinions not approved by the Koran?

Of course he was, that's the whole point. More precisely, Islamic freedom. Freedom by Qutb's definition means freedom from choice, freedom from man's law, freedom from infidelity, and consequently, freedom from infidels.

I suggest you take your own advice and read some Qutb, your analysis is not even close. He's talking about Islam, SUBMISSION. Submission to Islam equals freedom. The forces that limit his freedom, we may summarize as temptation. Islamic freedom = freedom from temptation.

Umm that is incorrect, While Islam (at least was) the fastest growing religion in the world it was not due to converts but was directly proportional to the brith rates in 3rd world countries.

But that statistic is now 20 years old and was done by readers digest, gopher I think you need to do a little research before you go shooting off at the mouth, and making things up.

Actually Christanity (cross denominatioal) has the highest conversion rate, currently experiencing huge growth in China and Africa. (largely assumed to be the result of aid coming from christian orginizations.)

due to the sheer number of christians there are actually more new christiansl each year than muslim.

Saying Islam is growing faster than Christianity is like saying Canada is growing faster than China
