I voted for my local NDP candidate. I crossed out her party name underneath and hope it doesn't spoil the ballot but won't be bothered too much if it does.

I hesitated at first sinse I was unaware there was an independent candidate on the list. I did some quick online research and could find little info on him so went ahead with the NDP candidate. I always give independents first dibs at my vote to break the party system.

This was partially my fault. The independent probably added his name at the last minute and I'd stopped looking before then. Had I known, I would have asked him some questions and if he'd proved to be worthy, I would have voted for him instead. Lesson learnt.

Anyway, I hope my local candidate wins but not her party. She just showed some good ideas and I think she will represent my riding well whether in government or opposition.
good for you,if anything you voted, good job!

in my opinion. He deserves no kudos. He spoiled his ballot. He mocked the system, and he makes it very clear that it meant nothing to him.

That's because my "best" option was still too partisan for my liking. It was either that or cast a blank ballot.

i disagree, sometimes spoiling a ballot can mean everything to an individual,it may have nothing to do with mockery as it may have everything to do with something else, like freedom.

Just getting your name stroked off the list is proof enough you showed up. The beauties of a secret ballot are only you know and it's nobody else's business what you did with it

I voted 2 weeks ago.

What election was that for?

It does spoil the ballot, but I guess you made some kind of statement?

Yeah, to Joe Schmuck the ballot counter. Doubt if it will sift through to Harper!

I got another call from the Dippers. Maybe their plan is to annoy me into voting for them. Typically screwball thinking. She asked if they could count on my support. Nope. She asked who and I told her the Rhinos. She almost begged me not to throw my vote away. hahaha
She was a polite lady, though, and very personable.

That's nice- not like our Dipper idiot up here. She's going to bring in 25,000 refugees and bring all the marginalized people here up to standard!! :) :) :) :)

I always say yes they can count on my support whomever calls. Not my fault they will get disappointed at election day. They are politicians, should be used to the lies.

:) :) :) :) You were probably just talking to someone who's been paid to phone you, who doesn't give a fiddlers f**k who you vote for! :)

I voted today and did not spoil my ballot like a f*cking dummy. I value my vote and really hope it counts for something.

If you have a problem with people voting you suck.
If you go to vote, no matter how you vote, you are a real participant in democracy.
People are dying around the world for something people here are so glib about.
If you don't even know how to mark a ballot then you are part of the problem.
Learn to vote Machjo. You have made yourself look really ignorant of a simple process.
If you weren't sure then you should have asked. Please participate in our society.

I know how to check a box. My problem was that there really wasn't a good choice in my riding. The New Democrat was really the only one in my riding who had some good ideas on the one hand, but was also hyper-partisan on the other, making it unlikely she would succeed in implementing any of her good ideas short of her party forming government.

On the other hand, I wouldn't trust her party in government, preferring her to present her ideas from the opposition benches where again she'd likely accomplish little due to her hyper-partisanship.

Given the circumstances, spoiling the ballot was likely the best option.

Now if your society could be lesspartisan, that would help a lot. I like democracy, but not hyper-partisanship. Unfortunately in many ridings, all the candidates have become hyper-partisan.

I don't know what to think about voting. I've pretty well always done it, at least Federally and Provincially, not so much municipally as I often don't know or understand all the issues in which case I wouldn't be able to vote fairly. If I was to vote in an election where I didn't understand or know all the issues I might cancel out the vote of someone who cast a valid vote. I know some people cast a vote based on one issue and at times I've probably leaned that way myself. I know I favour Harper because he's never personally harmed me or my family, but if I was say an injured ex military person I might vote differently. Every one has his/her own opinion. The world would be boring otherwise.

In the U S they even recount defective chads.....

We still put an "X" beside a name on a paper ballot during federal elections. The counting is done locally by representatives of all of the parties working together ... Over Timmy's coffee and donuts, for the most part. It would is low tech, a bit quaint but very difficult to manipulate. Electronic balloting is not secure, will never be and no one is watching.

I also voted today. Was pretty busy. My dog was unable to cast a ballot although he wanted to eat mine. I think he thought it was a treat.

Technically, due to Election Canada foul-ups, I have three votes - all from the same name and address (incorrect address after nine years of telling them) but in different polling places and one different riding. I'll only vote once though....

I hear you and I agree up to a point. The problem is if everyone acts like that we'll never get a vote count above 60% or so as lots of ridings are a foregone conclusion. It means an hour of your time once every four years. What I am more against is people voting who have no knowledge or opinion. I have a relative who always votes N.D.P. not for anything they do so much as it's who he's always voted for. A protest vote is OK as long as it's for a better party than the one being protested against.

i have large distances to travel to vote,i cannot risk going to the wrong riding.

Go online and type in your postal code. I don't see how one can possibly go wrong with that. (I'm going to try to do 90% of it for you) :)

Click on "where do I vote" on the right side of the page.
If this differs from the card you got in the mail, I'd print this one off and take it to the polling station. People who type in cards can get f**ked up.
