Well, Vereya, just look at those eyes in your avatar ...obviously, your choice of eyes demontrates how totally anxious you are to get together with one of our wonderful Canadian men so that you can manipulate and deceive the poor guy and rob him of everything he owns. ;-)

Ah, Daisy, you've discovered all of my intentions. Just don't tell anyone else, let's make it our secret. And if you advise me how to get a Canadian man to toe the line, we could share his property ;-)

Now maybe I'm just old fashioned but isn't trust a quality you find in the individual rather than a nationality? I submit that the key to finding a trustworthy spouse is to seek that quality above physical or financial ones.

It's been my experience that those who look for the bad boy/girl types, find them to live up to that standard.

I know three males in California who corresponded with three Russian women - who eventually becames their wives.

One has been married for seven years and his wife has a fantastic job as well in environmental industrial work of some kind plus they have two children. His wife is beautiful - not extraordinarily beautiful but beautiful in a natural way, has a great sense of humor, caught on to the local English slang phrases very well and in addition insists on running her own house without help except for a
cleaning lady once a month and a part time sitting service. It is a great partnership and they both appear to be fulfilled.

One guy married a lovely girl who was so homesick she went into therapy and finally they divorced and she returned home to Russia. There was no anger, it just didn't work out. No children thanks to fate.

One guy married a professional woman who decided American women have it just fine so she stayed at home, brought her sister and her mother to live with the family and has caused much added expense to the guy's life - but he seems to be so in love it is worth it to him. I think she is not as much "in love" as he is but she keeps him happy and she has her happiness in other ways.

All three say Russian women appreciate the male whereas American (perhaps Canadian - I have no examples) women seem to be lazy and self-centered when compared with their Russian counterparts.

I'd say it is no more of a gamble than marrying the girl in the neighborhood you've known for years. The hardest part is grasping the 'intent and meaning' of many words spoken by someone who is new to the slang we use for English here in the west.

Did you ever use thespark.com? It had a bunch of silly tests... i think they still have them, purity test, death test, gay test, stuff like that, anyway one was the match test, which arbitrarily scored you on various scales in a mocking-those-tests-that-pretend-to-have-validity kind of way, and then led you into a spinoff website called sparkmatch. The whole thing was a spoof dating site, completely free and filled with people mostly just having fun. That's where it started, then it migrated to msn and then meetspace (stratford-upon-avon, UK). The rest is history.

Why on earth would it be a bad thing to meet someone on the internet??? You don't pre-judge people by looks, you're usually not clouded by alcohol as you might be in a bar, you're in private if u wish to be and not if you dont, there's no pressure on either side. Personally i think it's the best place to meet friends and lovers and wives.

Never heard of the site, but that sounds similar to tickle.com with the silly tests.
Heard there is also a site with an online community with a function where you can set-up whom you're having a crush on at that time and if the same person is putting your name as the person s/he fancies, then both will be sent a notification that the 2 fancy one another.
Still, you're probably one of the lucky ones to meet a good match.
Plus there are more dodgy blokes than dodgy women out there on the internet. I got tired of random chats on either MSN/Yahoo messenger even Skype recently too, that would be just a waste of time the way I see it, and I don't have that much actually! Now I don't get online in these things unless I do need to talk to friends who have IDs in these things.

But you were right Hermann I reckon about the internet is the space to connect people around the world and it's not impossible to make friends using it either. I was active in a forum in Japan and Singapore when I was there and got to meet wonderful people I still keep in touch even though am in Europe now. But certainly to make "making friends online" works, one needs to meet the other people offline too, I'd say.

Plus, speaking of dodgy people, there are dodgy people also in bars/pubs/clubs where the socialising scenes take place heaps especially here in Dublin. Seems that's the main place where people go to meet new people or well to hook up. So yeah I wouldn't say using internet to meet people is a silly thing at all, just have to be cautious, just like what we've been doing when meeting strangers in pubs/clubs.

spark was/is better than tickle cos it never pretended the tests were any good. They deliberately put in arbitrary questions which would make you laugh. They always asked if you were canadian, for instance, and marked you down for that... amusing if you're not canadian i expect.
