How many here use a breadmaker?

Handiest thing, makes bread, cookies, pies, sweeps the floor and does the laundry and even goes to the grocery store to buy grub.

A couple or three years ago we bought ourselves a Black & Decker breadmaker for Christmas. We have hardly bought a loaf of bread since. The bread they turn out is great. The only criticism I can think of is the size and shape of the loaf.......Not a big problem since you can bake the bread in your own bread pans. The beauty is that you don't have to get up to your elbows in flour. Does anyone here make their own bread?
Thanks for adding this thread. I do have a bread maker - one of my kids has it so I must ask for it back. I know they don't use it. It never occurred to me to make anything different from the recipes they offer in the book. I also had no idea you could bake the bread in the oven instead and that really appeals to me. The kids have invited us over for dinner tomorrow night so I will remember to ask for it.
Thanks for helping me remember.

I mentioned on the pancake thread that wheat cakes are so much tastier than rice cakes. This is also true of bread. Gluten free bread is largely tasteless. I have bought several types of gluten free flour and every brand I've tried has no flavor. Does anyone have a suggestion as to gluten free flour that has flavor?

When we first got our breadmaker we hurried home, did a quick read of the manual, rinsed all the parts, piled in all the ingredients for our first loaf of breadmaker bread. After a couple hours, we had this strange shaped loaf of bread. Another thing we found was that the little paddle that does the mixing and the kneading was inside the loaf of bread. The other thing is that any slice off that loaf is guaranteed not to fit any toaster. The obvious answer is to let the breadmaker do the mixing and kneading and use your own pans to bake the bread and that is what we do.

I have a bread maker...every once in a while I pull it out and make a loaf or two.

As I get older I am eating less and less bread. I just don't need the calories and the calorie to taste ratio isn't worth it.
