WOW, Canucks 6 Flames 0
Hard work definitely pays off, creates room to score, our defense is awsome, and our
goalie is the captain of all captains. Great start, guess the pre season wasn't a fluke,
or bad luck, they kept it going, good for them.
Calgary again on Saturday in Calgary, they'll be waitin for us, we'll be ready.

GO CANUCKS GO

canucks about to start their tribute to Luc Bourdon, 7:30, then the game
against Calgary immediately following:

It was a very nice tribute for Luc Bourdon. I like the fact that they will be playing with LB on their helmets for the rest of the season, and I really like the area they placed in the Arena in memory of Luc. Very touching!

As far as the game goes, they continued their great play from the preseason. While I am a Leaf fan, I honestly think that Vancouver will go far this year.

Luongo got me 2 points last night! One point for the victory, and one point for the shutout. Good job, Roberto!

I missed seeing the area they set up inside of GM Place, it is permanent, and a very nice
thought indeed.
I have Luongo in my pool as well, 'loo loo loo loo ' , way to go.
I also have the twins, so earned points from them as well last night.

After so many games, practices, plane rides, and dinners the players have had enough time to get to know each other right? We decided to put their knowledge to the test.

Let's see just how much they've learned about Mattias Ohlund.

Vancouver Canucks - Recap: Vancouver @ Calgary - 10/11/2008

Canucks 5, Flames 4, OT
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -Pavol Demitra scored with 1:06 left in overtime to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-4 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night.
After Michael Cammalleri was knocked off the puck deep in the Canucks end, Vancouver broke out on a 3-on-1 rush led by Alex Burrows. Burrows waited patiently before sending the puck across the to Demitra at the edge of the crease and he banged it in the open side for his first goal of the season.
Daniel Sedin had two goals for Vancouver , and Rick Rypien and Ryan Kesler also scored.
Michael Cammalleri, Rene Bourque, Todd Bertuzzi and Andre Roy scored for Calgary

Very exciting game, looked grim in the beginning, but canucks turned up the intensity,
and away they went. I'm impressed at their speed this year, and the grit is exciting.
Paval Dimitra did nothing the whole game, but then put in a nice winning goal, off of
the hard word of Alex Burrows.

Now their on the road for awhile.

Nice to see some scoring on the team again. Looks like they have a competitive mix. Do they talk radio guys still think Gillis was a mistake? It was nauseating to hear them whine during the summer.

In the next provincials he WILL be the next premier of BC....unless we lose 2 in a row:roll:

I know what you mean Hyack. I can leap tall bandwagons in a single bound. But even I was appalled by the Vancouver media. I wrote an email to the Team 1040 this summer to express my dislike for their Nonis defense and the Gillis assassination. Right now the team looks better than it ever did under Nonis. That's not say it's forever but I'm glad the team has responded for him so far.

I was just mentioning to my husband that "I now know what Gillis had in mind for this team, and Nonis would never have put together a team with this kind of toughness and
character," I am encouraged by his progress so far, and I stand 'for' him, as he is bringing
us some entertainment, and grit, and I also don't think he is finished.

Very nauseating indeed, they had the team figured out, (in their own minds), when they knew nothing about the
team, as there were so many changes. Many of the callers were the same, there are so
many BIG mouths out there, it becomes frustrating.

Vancouver Canucks - Preview: Vancouver @ Washington - 10/13/2008

Canucks-Capitals Preview

Oct 13, 2008, 4:00 PM PT
TV Information National TV:
VERSUS (HD)Local Away:
PPV Alex Ovechkin didn't need long to show why he's the NHL's reigning MVP and why he could be favored to repeat.
The Washington star looks to build off his first two goals of the season Monday when he and the Capitals host the Vancouver Canucks, who are looking for their first 3-0 start in nine years.
Ovechkin scored a league-leading 65 goals to go along with 47 assists last season to help the Capitals (1-1-0) reach the playoffs for the first time since 2003. He scored twice Saturday in a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks in Washington's home opener.
"Look at him and how he plays - he wins battles. That's why he's a star player," Blackhawks coach Denis Savard said. "You want to be a star player, you do it every night, not just once in a while."
The Capitals trailed 2-1 after the first period, but Ovechkin tied it in the second with his first goal of the season. He added another with about 1 1/2 minutes left to complete the scoring after Brooks Laich scored the go-ahead goal 15:33 into the third period.
The Capitals bounced back after opening the season with a 7-4 loss at Atlanta on Friday. Jose Theodore, who didn't make it through the second period in the loss after allowing four goals, made 19 saves on Saturday and recovered despite allowing a goal between his legs on the first shot he faced, 26 seconds into the game.
"I just felt really bad for Theo," Washington coach Bruce Boudreau said. "I knew he wanted more than anything tonight, and I knew he wanted to redeem himself."
Theodore signed a two-year, $9 million contract in the offseason. The Capitals were looking for someone to replace Olaf Kolzig and Cristobal Huet, who both left via free agency. In 52 starts last season with Colorado, Theodore had a 2.47 goals-against average.
He played well against Vancouver last season, going 5-0-1 with a 1.97 GAA.

Two periods finished, and Vancouver is down 5-1. Well, you're usually going to lose games when you only have THREE shots on net through two periods!8O

I was so impressed with the talent and strength of the washington offense tonight, they
had the canucks running around, and constantly chasing. We had some chances in the
first period, but shots were not on net, and they held us to 3 shots on goal until late in
the game when we accumulated a few more shots.
A good lesson in hockey, and we must take the positive from this game, I don't think
many teams will overpower Washington this year. They have it all, they lost their first game to Atlanta Thrashers, and I don't know how that happened, but it probably won't
happen again this season. Washington must have just been slow out of the starting gates
for their first game of the season.
I was really irritated with Ovetchkin when he hit Welwood so hard, that was unnecessary,
as he is so much bigger and stronger, and no need to hit someone that small, that hard.
He should know better, as he doesn't have to do that to take him out of the play, I was
hoping someone would make him pay for that,, but I guess no one wants to go after a
super star, and most players just 'bounce' off of him anyway.

One fellow allready phoned in to 1040 early this morning, and said that canucks haven't
actually played a 'good' game yet, even though they beat calgary twice.

My first thoughts are that, Washington is very very strong, and they are, but then after
I slept on it, I feel that perhaps they were so relieved after those two very tough games
against Calgary, very physically demanding, and emotionally draining, then, they flew out
of calgary and on to washington, maybe with a little too much 'relief', and felt that
Washington would be a step down from Calgary, even Vineault's decision to play Welwood
in that game tells me that he had no idea what they were going to be up against, as
Welwood is no physical match for them, but he probably would play much better against
Detroit, who aren't a physical, but are a puck possession team, and there is a little more
room to skate against detroit, even though they are a better team than washington, at
least right now, we'll see what happens when washington plays them, it will be
interesting.
Luongo also did not have a stellar game, he let in a couple of softies, and had the
game stayed at 3-1, it would have been reachable instead of out of reach.

They asked him what he thought happened, and he said "I have no idea what happened
out there".

The younger guys have to 'settle down' now, and play a little more relaxed, hannson
and raymond are trying to do too much, raymond has a great shot, but he is missing
the net on every one lately. That line hasn't jelled yet, but I think they will smooth
out more given a little time.
