Yep, the boy just has a bit of a temper, not much wrong with that under certain circumstances!

I think a suspension would be down right stupid, it would punish the team more than John and would put their success in jeopardy. But of course with so many idiots allowed to make decisions these days you just never know.

torterella has been suspended for 15 'days', and hartley has been fined $25,000.00.

if torterella had not gone down the hall looking for hartley, he wouldn't have been given anything,as, there was nothing wrong with his response on the
bench.
but hartley most likely would 'still' have been fined, he was the instigator, the cause of
the initial problem to begin with, he put torterella in a very bad situation, and as torterella said
in his after game interview, he was not going to put the sedins out there, and put them in harms way.
What he is sorry for, is putting the 'new' player on the ice, he said he should not have done that,
and he feels bad for doing so.
That young fellow's parents flew from ontario to see him in his first NHL game, got a 2 second look.

Hopefully the canucks, or torterella will pay their way, to stay for the edmonton game.

I see Hank is sidelined due to injury.

Good post Talloola. I suppose the ultimate decision on John's fate probably came from Bettman, who personally I can't think of an unmentionable enough name to call him. I suppose Dweeb might be a good start. -:)

how about a 'dweeby little dwip'

bettman and daly were both at the hearing today, so, yes, definitely had something to say.

He got what he deserved. He had no reason or right to head down that hallway. Personally, I think the 25k fine to the Calgary coach was over the wall. All he did was put an opening line up. It was torterella's choice as to who he put up against it.

I think John adequately explained what choice he had. Why would a coach start out with a line of tough guys? Don't tough guy guys play WITH the finesse player to protect them from physical damage?

He played Calgary's 4th line. He didn't "cobble" together a line. He played our 4th line.

there was much more to it than 'just' putting out an opening line up. the line he put out there was off
the wall, they just don't do that, it was sending a message, so, torterella put out his 4th line, he didn't
have a choice, he would normally have started his first or second line, And so would the visiting team.It was a set up from the start, to have a line brawl. the league knows that, that is why he was
given the fine.
the home team coach has last say for line changes and starting line up,
so when that ridiculous 4th line was put out there, it was so obvious,
then it is torterella's choice to put his out there, what exactly was he
suppose to do, put the sedins out there, and if that had turned into a
feast for calgary to bash them around, then torterella would be roasted
for putting them out there, to get beat on, it was very very obvious what
hartley wanted, and he got it.

if you can't, or don't want to see that, then you are nieve, so be it, i know and understand what was
going on, so it really doesn't matter, think what you want.
you obviously just want torterella to be the bad guy, the fall guy, cause hartley stood there like a statue,
pretending he was totally innocent, that is a game within a game.

apparantly, according to some who have seen his antics over the years, said that he has done that many times
throughout the years, for the same outcome.

his job is on the line here, brian burke wants that team to be tougher, he also cAme aboard recently as the
g.m., and he might be giving hartley his walking papers soon, so that he can bring aboard the coach 'he'
wants, hartley was not his choice, feaster hired him, now that burke has fired feaster, i'm sure he has his
own plans, and they most likely don't include hartley.

hartley's fine, in my opinion should have been 100,000.00 not 25, he caused the problem, and torterella,
deserves the suspension for the backroom antics.

thats the way i see it.

Yeah, O.K. Gerry, but why would he start with his fourth line if he didn't have an ulterior motive? Hartley is still a d*nk and should have got the 15 games PLUS the fine!

It's OK, Talloola, Gerry is a Calgarian and has to stick up for the team or his neighbours might jump over his fence and beat him up. -:)

torterella, is a hot head. This isn't the first time he has pulled crap like this. Going after coaches, players, and even fans is his modus operandi.

to automatically make him the bad guy just cause you think of him in general terms as a 'hot head' is
not just dealing with this incident. he has been fined a few times for cAlling down officials,
he has been taken to task for returning a water spray to a fan, who had first sprayed him. sure
any of us would do that too, but as a coach he must just take it, not give it back.

obviously you don't understand the game hartley was playing, and because of that, i understand why youthink he is innocent, he was laughing to himself inside, because he clammed up after he instigated
what happened, and stood back, with his mouth tight, and watched torterella blow up. there are
lots of ways of showing poor behavior, we saw two different styles in that game, the tight lipped
guilty hartley and the emotional reaction of torterella, hartley knew he would make torterella angry,
he did that, but he certainly was 'not' innocent at all.

the league knows that, because they also understand the 'game within the game', just like i do.

I understand more than you think. I just don't think Hartley should be penalized for "playing the game". It was torterella's choice to react the way he did. Hartley can't "make" anyone do anything.

According to some ex players Hartley has a history of putting guys on the ice with specific instructions to fight. Specific enough that if they don't they won't play. Torts didn't just fall off of a turnip truck, he knew what was going on. And if you look at the film the Flames players were the first to drop the gloves. The on ice brawl was Hartley driven. Having said that, Torts can't just roam around locker rooms looking to pick fights. They probably both deserve what they got.

Pretty close but I as far as I know John didn't actually "throw a fist".

Not quite, Gerry. He put out 5 players, the "4th line" consists of 3 players. So he put out 2 tough guys protecting 3 other tough guys? I was born at night, but it wasn't last night! -:)

Well, Tortorella has been suspended for fifteen days or, as it turns out, six games. I think it should have been more. Hot headed nonsense like Tortorella pulled deserved more than a half dozen games.IMO.

I don't think so, he did the right thing in standing behind his team. Just saw Bieksa and Sestito on the Tube backing John up, so I'd say the proof is in the pudding. Hartley was plainly the instigator.

Both Hartly and Torts should have got lengthy supensions
