It wasn't a good game, I thought Canucks were stronger at first, but in the third period Nashville was all over them. They did have one spell of bad luck during a power play when they put a flurry of shots on the net, but nothing got through. Guess Nashville was hungrier tonight.

for starters, they better find another player to do the shots, after the good passes, close to the
goal, during the power play, as hamhuis doesn't know how to do those yet, looked like a pee wee player.

that power play was very good, they had lots of chances, and there should have been a goal scored.

goals are something they are not familiar with for sometime now. its just the way the puck bounces
and canucks need those bounces badly, and so did nashville, both teams are as bad as each other
when it comes to scoring goals.

either team could have won this game, neither one was any better or worse than the other, its just
not real good hockey, but the two teams are quite equal.

both goalies were fine, its the players who need to step up.

back to back games next, colorado sunday, edmonton monday

Coyotes continue chase of Canucks in PacificSaturday, 01.25.2014 / 5:19 PMBrian Hunter - NHL.com Staff
PrintCOYOTES (24-18-9) at CANUCKS (26-17-9)

TV: FS-A PLUS, SNET-P

Last 10: Phoenix 4-6-0; Vancouver 3-5-2

Season series: It's the fourth of five games between the Phoenix Coyotes and Vancouver Canucks. Each of the first three has been decided by a single goal and won by the home team. Phoenix won 3-2 on Nov. 5 as Antoine Vermette scored in the shootout. Vancouver responded for a 3-2 win of its own Dec. 6 on an overtime goal by Chris Higgins. And most recently, Mike Smith made 29 saves and Vermette scored the lone goal as the Coyotes blanked the Canucks 1-0 on Jan. 16.

Big story: This is the proverbial "four-point game" in the sense that Phoenix could pull within two points of Vancouver for the eighth seed in the Western Conference or find itself six points out, depending on who wins and whether the victory is in regulation. The Coyotes will still hold a game in hand regardless of the outcome, but with almost two-thirds of the season in the books this is about as big as it gets for the end of January.

Team Scope:

Coyotes: A three-game road trip through Western Canada concludes for Phoenix, which will then have six games remaining before the Olympic break, including five straight on home ice.

It will more than likely take a complete, 60-minute effort for the Coyotes to get points out of Rogers Arena, but they managed to get away with a little less than that Friday in edging the Edmonton Oilers to stop a two-game losing streak. Mike Ribeiro's goal three minutes into the second period gave them a four-goal cushion and they needed all of it, winning 4-3.

"We've got to keep pushing now," said forward Mikkel Boedker, who tied Vermette for the team lead with his 15th goal to open the scoring. "There's not that much left until the break and we might as well leave it all out there. We need points and we need valuable points, and we need to climb in the standings. Coming up here in Vancouver we need the next two points."

Canucks: While goal prevention continues to be a strength for Vancouver, in the NHL's top 10 defensively, the Canucks are in the bottom third in offense. They're currently missing forwards Henrik Sedin and Mike Santorelli, while Daniel Sedin has one assist in his past six games and no goals in 11 games this month.

With the Canucks' power play also toward the bottom of the League at 14.3 percent efficiency, special teams has come into focus. They went 0-for-5 in a 2-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

"We're still a confident group out there and we moved the puck very well and got some good chances," Daniel Sedin said in the Vancouver Province. "We made some good plays, but you can't keep saying that, we've got to have the goals."

Who's hot: Ribeiro has two goals and two assists during a three-game point streak for the Coyotes. … Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo has stopped 83 of 88 shots (.943 save percentage) in three starts since returning from injury.

Injury report: Phoenix has a healthy roster with the return of forward Martin Hanzal against Edmonton. … Henrik Sedin (ribs) has missed the past two games for Vancouver. Santorelli (shoulder) and defenseman Andrew Alberts (concussion) are on injured reserve.

After Bieksa took that shot on the inside of his ankle I thought he might not be back so it's doubly good to see him score the winning goal.

That being said a person wishes for More Goals More Goals More Goals bu when they start to happen you remember how awful some of them are-some truly dreadful goalkeeping on both sides tonight.

Loved that match this afternoon between the Devils & Rangers ~ you could sense that there was a terrific atmosphere in Yankee Stadium. NY'ers really love their sports and the fans had a great time there.

Brodeur said it was really cold out there and tough on the goalies. Couldn't catch a puck.

we'll get two, then you can get two, then we get two, then you get two, sure good sportsmanship. lol

goalies were shakey, but so were the teams at times.

Out of fairness- I can't find much fault with Higgins or Bieksa , I'm beginning to wonder if Danny and Hank aren't pretty much useless individually. Well, maybe that's not quite fair either Henrik wins a good share of faceoffs.

they both definitely have slipped from the best they were, but hank leads the team much better, and tends
to 'make' things happen on the ice, whereas danny seems to just blend in now.

what i meant was, that i am getting to know a few of these new players, and appreciate what they bring to
the table. bieksa is fine, but not always, higgins is definitely a hard worker, and a valuable player,
and i like lots of the older players.

kesler is still a force on the ice, but i don't consider him a superstar at all. canucks don't have any
superstars, eg. crosby, malkin, toews, kane, getzlaf, perry etc.

the team needs to either acquire or build from inside, a couple of players who rise to the top of the heap,
and demand the respect of that title, 'super star', can't see anything on the horizon, maybe gillis can
wave the magic wand, sooner than later.

oilers have a few players who will be considered 'super stars' in the near future, but right now they are
too young, haven't matured physically to intimidate in that capacity 'yet', but the ingredients are there,
easy to see, and when it all comes together, lookout, but of course they had to suck for a number of
years, just like chicago, and pittsburg to acquire that status of player, don't think canuck fans want to wait about ten years, in the
basement of the league, so they can draft at the top of the order, thAt is the hard way to go, i'll
enjoy watching them in the middle of the pack for awhile till they start the upward trend again, that
is the norm.

Talloola, I'm a little less kind than you. I thought two of the Coyotes goals were scored by Canucks. Luongo scored one
and he assisted on a goal by Kesler. I'm kidding...sort of....Lu looked pretty bad last night.

There were some good highlights, Yes Hansen looked good and Bieksa scored a nice goal to end the game. They are all nice if they count. That is one winning game in a row....or is it two?

PrintOILERS (16-32-6) at CANUCKS (27-17-9)

TV: SNET-W, SNET-P

Last 10: Edmonton 3-6-1; Vancouver 4-4-2

Season series: This is the fourth of five games between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver won the first three by a combined score of 12-3, including a 2-1 decision last Tuesday at Rexall Place.

Big story: Edmonton ended a six-game winless streak (0-5-1) Sunday night, when it cruised to a 5-1 victory against the Nashville Predators at Rexall Place. Goalie Ben Scrivens, acquired from the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 15, stopped 34 of 35 shots to earn his first win since the trade.

Team Scope:

Oilers: It was a memorable night for Ryan Smyth on Sunday. The veteran forward pulled into a second-place tie with Wayne Gretzky by scoring his 125th power-play goal with the Oilers, helping Edmonton end its skid.

Glenn Anderson holds the Oilers record with 126 power-play goals.

"For Ryan, that was a special thing to do," Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins said. "Hopefully, he can keep moving up the charts. Anything that has Mr. Gretzky's name on it and you can match it, it's a great, great accomplishment. I'm really proud of Ryan."

Canucks: Vancouver has experienced trouble scoring goals lately, but it didn't have any problems Sunday.

Kevin Bieksa scored twice, including the game-winner 2:15 into overtime, to lift the Canucks to a 5-4 victory against the Phoenix Coyotes at Rogers Arena. Chris Higgins chipped in with a goal and two assists for Vancouver, which found a way to win despite blowing a pair of two-goal leads.

"It was kind of a sloppy game and with the weird goals it was kind of a strange game," Higgins said. "It's nice to be on the winning side of those games and nice to score a bunch of goals; it's been tough to come by recently."

Who's hot: Oilers forward Jordan Eberle extended his point streak to five games Sunday (four goals, two assists). Taylor Hall had two assists Sunday to extend his point streak to four games. He has five assists over that span. … Canucks forward Ryan Kesler has four points (one goal, three assists) in the past four games.

Injury report: The Oilers could be without defensemen Andrew Ference (upper body) and Philip Larsen (illness), along with forward Ales Hemsky (left ankle). … Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin (ribs) has missed the past three games. Forward Mike Santorelli (shoulder) and defenseman

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i've heard that jordan schroeder most likely will be playing tonight, this is another of quite a few
starts he will have had with the team, he is a very talented winger/centerman, but he is also very small, so
in this day and age of the big fast skaters in the nhl, it will be interesting to see how he does.
i know martin st louis is a fabulous player as a very short guy, but he is one in a million, players
like him don't come along every day. good luck to schroeder, hope he does well.

yes, kesler definitely scored one of their goals, and yeah, luongo should have left that puck alone,
it would have gone wide, and the breakaway goal looked bad on his part, BUT it should not have been
a breakaway, team was lazy on that play, and the puck did do a wierd thing by coming off of the stick
of the player, which then changes the look of how the puck was going to be played, so i give luongo a
pass on that one.
i was just having a bit of fun in my previous post about 2 for us and 2 for you. yeah canucks definitely
scored lots of goals, two of them in the opposition net. lol

canucks were beaten by a better team tonight. those edmonton forwards were blitzing around showing
everyone how talented they are, 'many' of them, one for one have much more talented forwards
than the canucks, their time is coming, just hang on folks, its taking a while, but its easy to
see.
they pulled off a great trade with st. louis a while back acquiring david perron, edmonton won that
trade by a longshot, and that gave them 'another' talented forward.

just like richardson said in his after game interview, canucks got sucked into playing the edmonton
style game, something they didn't want to do, they can't match them in that style of play.

that so called top line for canucks didn't show up. defense had some hardships as well, weren't
ready for those fast forwards coming at them.

both goalies played fine, that isn't cAnucks problem.

nice two goals for schroeder, they were kind of lucky goals, but they still count, and he played well.

poor burrows, just can't buy a goal, hit a post, kesler too.

It's kind of like they are wading through quick sand. They did have some "jump" toward the end of the third. I don't think the coach being suspended has helped a whole lot!

i didn't think the coach being suspended should help, mike sullivAn has worked with torterella for
years, they coach exactly the same system, the same way, he's just not as emotional as torterella,
he doesn't show emotion at all, a bit of a dead pan face on the bench, but they all have to be who
they are.

anyone else watching calgary and chicago on tsn?

chicago have been losing a bit lately, not quite on their game right now, but
on the flip side calgary looks very good tonight, some of those new players,
they have for their rebuild, are beginning to show lots of improvement.

going into the 3rd period, calgary and chicago tied at 4
