I was just looking at the stats for the West, maybe the Pacific Division (apart from Anaheim) is starting to develop "cracks", I'd say S.J. and L.A. are now pretty much on par with Vancouver, and Edm. and Cgy. are starting to pick up the pace a bit.

yeah, edmonton and calgary are doing very well right now, calgary just defeated san jose, but their stats
are not good as far as points, but their teams are definitely playing better right now, i'm enjoying
it. l.a. can't seem to beat anyone right now except canucks. that game last night where edmonton beat
the sharks, scrivens stopped 59 shots from the sharks, that is a goalie record, so can't really say
the sharks didn't play well, they probably were in edmonton's end of the rink all night.

just looking at chicago's stats, only 33 wins, and 13 ot losses, that could
come back to haunt them at the end of the season.

close score tonight, but they can thank lack for keeping it close, or it could have been a blowout.

they played the first period very poorly, allowing jets to enter their zone very easily, and then

blast the puck at lack.

tightened up a bit better in the second, but it was lack who kept them respectable.

torterella back next game against detroit, but i didn't see anything different during his absence, the

team played about the same as when he was with them.

kesler played quite well.

detroit on monday

Did anyone else see the large photo of Tortorella being passed around the rink @ ice level?

It was hilarious classic Torts-in-a-rage shot.

yes, we saw it, and we wondered what 'his' reaction was as he saw it too from whereever he was
watching the game, probably 'pissed' him off big time.

ok, so just how was that picture transferred onto the screen, because none of the fans sitting
there seemed to be aware of anything, seems they can't see it at all.

must be a computerized photo like those ads they show at the end of the ice, that 'we' cAn see
but fans can't?

I guess anything is possible with imagery these days. I imagine John was probably amused!

You're the one who can't see-it'a simple cardboard cutout being passed from hand to hand to hand.

It cost the guys who had it made $40-I read all about it on Reddit.

I see the Kings have just been beaten by the lowly Flyers. What's happening Talloola? -:)

don't call them lowly any more, they have vastly improved along the way, much better team now.
they were a better team all along, just had a bad start, their captain took a couple of months
before he woke up, now they are rolling.

watched an excellent game between two excellent teams, hAwks/sharks tonight. no score till midway
through 3rd period, 'then' both scored on the sAme power play. sharks a short hAnded goAl, and
hawks, A power play goal.
they played all the way to the shoot out.

great end to end rushes, lots of squirmishes, battles, and both goalies played awsome, very enjoyable.

sharks won, so now hawks have another ot loss, i think thats 14 now, no wins in ot or shoot out this season.

CANUCKS (27-20-9) at RED WINGS (24-19-12)

TV: SNET-P; FS-D+

Last 10: Vancouver 3-7-0; Detroit 4-4-2

Season series: The Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings play twice this season and this is the second game. The Red Wings won the first meeting 2-1 on Oct. 30 in Vancouver.

Big story: Each team is locked into a tight battle for a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot in its respective conferences. The Canucks are clinging to the last postseason spot in the Western Conference and the Red Wings are among a group of five teams right outside the cutoff mark in the East.

Injuries to a number of lineup regulars present challenges to each team, but Vancouver will get coach John Tortorella back from a six-game suspension after going 2-4-0 without him on the bench.

Team Scope:

Canucks: Vancouver has failed to gain two points in 12 of its past 16 games and has lost three straight while feeling the heat in the chase for the West's final postseason wild-card spot. It's currently theirs, but the Phoenix Coyotes are only a point behind and the 10th through 12th place teams are all within striking distance.

The Canucks are also down four defensemen because of injuries, including three who are right-handed shots. The latest to go down was Yannick Weber, who was hurt during a 4-3 loss at the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.

"We were resilient," center Ryan Kesler said. "We need to find a way to win. It's a tough one. I don't like to lose. Nobody in here likes to lose. It's getting really old."

The Canucks recalled defenseman Yann Sauve from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League on Sunday.

Sauve, 23, has collected nine points (all assists) and 37 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Comets this season. The Montreal native has played in five NHL games for Vancouver in his career.

Red Wings: Detroit avoided being shut out for a fourth straight road game, but still lost a sixth straight road game with a 6-5 defeat in overtime at the Washington Capitals on Sunday.

The good news is the top line of Gustav Nyquist, Henrik Zetterberg and Justin Abdelkader produced five of the Red Wings' eight goals and amassed nine points against the Capitals in the weekend home-and-home set. That included four goals by Nyquist, who recorded his first NHL hat trick and assisted on another goal in the loss Sunday afternoon.

The bad news is the defensive coverage lagged Sunday, leaving goaltender Jimmy Howard with little chance to stop the majority of Washington's goals.

"We showed some good resilience tonight," Howard said. "We found a way to come back, scraping and clawing and getting a point. At the same time, we could've easily been walking out of here with two points. I've got to find a way to come up with a couple more saves for the guys."

Who's hot: Kesler has a goal and three assists in the past two games for the Canucks. ... Nyquist is making a push to replace injured teammate Johan Franzen on the Swedish roster for the 2014 Sochi Olympics. His hat trick Sunday gave him eight goals in the past seven games for the Red Wings.

Injury report: Vancouver forward Mike Santorelli (shoulder surgery), defenseman Kevin Bieksa (undisclosed injury) and defenseman Andrew Alberts (upper body) are on injured reserve. Forward Henrik Sedin (ribs) has missed six straight games, defenseman Chris Tanev (upper body) is reportedly out until after the Olympic break and Weber (undisclosed) is also questionable. ... The Red Wings are still missing center Pavel Datsyuk (lower body), Franzen (concussion) and center Stephen Weiss (sports hernia
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

canucks just traded dale weiss for 'rapheal diaz' from montreal, swiss defenceman, has been in the
nhl for 3 years, not a superstar, but should help shore up the defense, as bieksa and tanev are
both injured, and they need the help.

the boys played a crappy game, with exception of lack, who was the team.

canucks didn't scare wings much at all, no shots in the last period till way past
the half way mark.

burrows fell down at least four times without any help from the opposition, he sure hasn't
been able to get himself going this season at all, and his skating is his weakest part of
his game, and it is very rusty, hopefully he will do some work on that during the break,
or, is he going on vacation during the olympics. i suppose the nhl has put in some sort
of clause, that teams can't be made to stay and practice, so most of them probably allready
have reservations to some fun in the sun.

canucks play tomorrow in boston, can't think of anything exciting to say pre-game.
