calgary now has to depend on others to get them into the playoffs, even if they win
all of their games, (which isn't likely), others have to lose to make it happen.

But they have done very well till now, they have given themselves every chance to get
there, but started a little late, turning things around, so now it is out of their hands,
the loss last night was costly.

Calgary took to the 3rd period as if they had already conceded the loss. Were they tired?

Rick Martin ~ French connection Line, RIP:

Buffalo Sabre legend Rick Martin dies

BUFFALO, New York — Rick Martin, a member of the Buffalo Sabres' fabled "French Connection" line in the 1970s, has died at the age of 59, the National Hockey League team has said.
The Sabres announced Martin's death in a statement before Sunday's game against Ottawa.
New York state police said Martin died after a one-car crash in the Buffalo suburb of Clarence.
NYSP Captain Steven Nigrelli said the car Martin was driving crossed the center line of the road and struck a utility pole before coming to rest against a tree.
Nigrelli said witnesses saw Martin with his head slumped and eyes closed at the wheel and it appeared that he had "an undetermined medical emergency" prior to the accident.
An autopsy is to be conducted to determine the cause of death, police said.
"Rick was not only one of the greatest players in franchise history, he was a great friend to the Sabres organization and entire community," a statement from the team said.
"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Sabres organization go out to his wife, Mikey, and their two sons, Corey and Josh."
Martin was selected fifth overall by the Sabres in the 1971 draft, and made an impact on the team the following season when he scored what was then an NHL rookie record 44 goals.
A native of LaSalle, Quebec, Richard Lionel Martin played left wing on a line centered by Gilbert Perreault and Rene Robert, which became known as The French Connection.
The French Connection is recognized at the Sabres' arena with separate banners honoring all three players hanging together from the ceiling.
Martin spent more than 10 seasons with Buffalo before a severe knee injury in 1980 slowed his NHL career.
He was traded to Los Angeles during the 1980-81 season, but played just four games for the Kings through the following campaign.
Martin finished with 384 goals and 317 assists for 701 points in 685 career NHL games. He added 24 goals and 29 assists for 53 points in 63 career playoff games.

Yes, I remember that line well, and of course the fact that we didn't get perreault, and buffalo got
him 'in a draw', as canucks and buffalo came into the league at the same time.

Yes- RIP RICK MARTIN

You'll get over it, Talloola.

I did - lol

I think they were realizing the reality of the situation.

Canucks play calgary the last game of the season, in calgary, and I am thinking of the possibilities
of that game, calgary could need one point to make it into the playoffs, with a win, whether they
get it or not doesn't matter much to the canucks, other than the fact that if they do win that game,
then canucks will play calgary first round, (of course if canucks win the conference).

Another win. 101 points, 10 ahead of philly for the presidents trophy, 11 ahead of Detroit in the west.

Looks like Kesler is getting back into form.

yes, 101 pts, awsome, and kesler played very well tonight, canucks had the game fully under control until the
penalties, which brought minny right back into the game, however they dug deep, played hard and hung on
for the win.

Am I the only one to have noticed a slight bias against the canucks from the refs lately. I have seen quite a few cheesy penalties against them recently while the other teams look to be getting away with a lot.

Could just be my personal bias but thought I'd put it out there.

I don't think there's any stopping them now, Talloola- they have the momentum of a mile long freight train on a down hill pull.

well, lets put it this way, canucks are mostly in the lead, and when a team is leading in a
game, they had better keep their noses clean, cause the refs seem to enjoy targeting the team
that is ahead.

I do notice that kesler can be mugged on many occasions without any notice from refs, and
because burrows has a reputation with the refs, they turn a blind eye to legitimate infractions
againt him, but burrows falls a lot, that is just his clumsiness many times, as he isn't exactly
twinkle toes on skates, so the refs seem to think he is diving.
The penalty kesler got tonight was a phantom, and i'm not a homer, I will criticize canucks any
time, if they take stupid penalties.

is that from one insomniac to another? lol

I thought the refereeing was bloody awful. By calling six consecutive penalties on the
Canucks, the referees were saying there was no infractions to calll on the other team
during that time. Anyone who watched that game could see that that wasn't the case.

ooh baby!

Hey talloola, if we manage to capture the Presidents Trophy for finishing at the top of the league, when does the NHL award that? First playoff game or perhaps start of next season?

I think it's awarded right after that particular game, but don't quote me on that statement, because
I'm not that sure, just assuming, because they award the conference trophys immediately after it is
clinched, after the game, the trophy no captain wants to touch, they just shake
hands, do the thank yous, and skate away, but in the past 'some' teams have embraced
it, without thinking it is bad luck.
