well it's simple. canucks played one excellent period, oilers played two.
and that equals a win for oilers.

I was sort of keeping an eye on the score but not really watching it. When they are up by a couple of goals then I start to pay attention.

I don't really know why the oilers have been so bad up to this point in the season.
They are stacked with highly talented offencive players, and last night was one of
the first games I have seen those particular players play to their potential.
If they continue playing well, the'll improve their position in the league.

Hemske has to be one of the most talented forwards in the league, and he has
lots of young talented forwards to play with, so what are they waiting for.
Canucks better 'up' their intensity and ability a little more right now, as this
is the time in the season when teams get restless and start moving up in the
ranks.
I hope the sundin signing can arrange the lines so that they become a little more
productive. Mason Raymond for instance needs a line that has good chemistry,
as he has the potential to be like hemsky, but dimitra doesn't get it, and pyatt
is a slug most of the time, not all the time, but he definitely could be replaced
with a better player, but he is good trade bait, and so is dimitra. Dimitra is
so programed, and doesn't seem to have a high gear, and if he tries to ramp it
up a bit, he ends up laying on the ice. His passes are 'too well' thought out, so
by the time he executes a pass it is sometimes intercepted, and 'is', definitely too slow.
Burrows and kesler have to play with very high intensity all the time, cause if they
don't, they look very ordinary, like a manitoba moose player, they played well
in the last period last night, but looked manitoba ish in the first two.

Anybody out there watch the canucks with express vu, nhl center ice.
We had to watch the whole game, with the broadcast coming from the edmonton
system, no vancouver guys at all, the whole game. It was confusing, cause the
game was in general motors place, and announcers in edmonton.
I will make an inquiry to express vu, to make sure this doesn't happen again.

It happens a lot when we watch other games, but I don't really care about it, as
neither team is 'ours', but our own home game must be shown from our own
sports net broadcast.

canucks had a good win tonight, dimitra played well with the twins, they should
leave them together again till they dry up like they did last time, then make a
change.
Ottawa looked awful, what a dissapointing transformation from a top team in the
league, to a very unorganized team, with poor defence, I know the good forwards
aren't doing much, but they have no defence to get the play started, so that puts
those good forwards in a tough position, so they need to go back to the drawing
board and start again, they remind me of tampa bay, very talented up front, but
nothing for defence, just won't get it done.
Our team cut their stupid penalties way down tonight, and it made a big difference, neil was trying quite often to goad our players into a fight, but
it didn't happen till the third period, and we weren't short handed because of
it, so no harm done.
The game was quite scrambly at times, but it is hard to have a smooth flow to
the game, when the other team is very unorganized, it creates scrambly play,
but we managed to maintain our position and power over them to win the game.
Sanford had his best game, starting to look very solid in goal now.
Roberto who? ;-)
No, just kidding, he is going to start skating this week, and hopefully this
time his groin will heal up, and we will see him, maybe in a couple of weeks.

Sounds good Talloola, we were tied up with company so the game kind of got forgotten, but I did check the score once in the third period.......3/0, so went to bed in a relaxed mood. I figure as long as they can sustain .500 until Luongo gets back, they'll probably hang on to a playoff spot.

Vancouver played well last night.

However, they were only playing Ottawa which is fast becoming the laughing-stock of the East. They have no offense, and more importantly they have no heart. They need to make some trades, and lots of changes, as it has now been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Emery was NOT the cause for their collapse last year. I wonder who their scapegoat will be this time?;-) One good thing out of all of this, is that they are making my beloved Leafs look a lot better.:p:lol:

Is toronto and ottawa going to fight over 'tavaras'?;-) They will have other
teams to go into the lottery with, so it won't be a slam dunk.
Toronto looks good sometimes and other times they look horrible.

I really do not want them to tank the season. If they got Tavaras that would be great, but I want the team to try and win their games.;-)

canucks better get a few wins going now, as colorado is on a hot streak, won
again tonight, beat nashville 5-1, and they are only 4 points behind us now.
Calgary beat Minnesota, so we are 3 behind calgary again, but we can fix that
tomorrow, the only problem there, we are playing philly, much harder game than calgary's game against minny, so we have a harder hill to climb with our game.
philly have quite a group of scorers, carter leading the way with 25 goals, and
about four others in the high teens.
we only have daniel sedin in that catagorie, so we will have to fix that, or
it will cost us from now on. I'm hoping sundin can click on a line with
raymond, as the right chemistry for raymond will get him scoring, he has it
in him, just hasn't had the right forwards, he needs a big guy with him, and
sundin fits that role, so we'll see, raymond is trying to do things he can't do,
because of his size, he needs help, he has so much talent.
Minnesota doesn't look good, they can't score, the loss of rolston and gaborik is
definitely showing, they would have a good 25 more goals right now if both
of them were playing on the team.

Canucks will have their hands full tonight against phillidelphia, lots of talented forwards, our defensive side of our game better be at it's best tonight, including
the forwards back checking, or we will be toast.
And sanford will have to be luongo tonight.

Watched Sundin's press conference, media asked all of the usual questions, then
repeated them over and over, but he was very gracious and patient, and is
sincerely glad to be here. He won't be playing tonight or going on the two game
road trip to Nashville and Atlanta, Jan 1 and 2, back to back, he will stay behind
and practice. He had one practice with them this morning.

He has his head screwed on straight, as most of the players do, it's the media who
get everything all twisted and make up their own version of things.

I had to laugh at the media guy after interview, said that he sounded a lot like naslund,
oh well, he's a swede, he said. Doesn't anyone listen to pyatt's interviews, he mumbles
and can't wait to leave, nothing said about him.
Sundin sounded very articulate and interested in what's going on, nothing like naslund,
and he even has less accent than naslund.

it's been about 20 years since they've beaten Della Filthia at home.

yep, and we didn't do it again tonight, although I liked the way the canucks played,
had a bunch of chances, and could have easily come away the victors.
They are off to nashville tomorrow, play on new years day, then to atlanta on the
2nd.
Just hope Calgary lose tomorrow so we can stay within reach of them.
We now have a new goalie, jason la barbera from los angelos, he will meet
them in Nashville. Sanford started this game with a stiff groin area, and it
got worse as period went on, schneider came in and played 'great', I'm so glad
as he can gain some confidence now.
So, now we have two completely different goalies than we started the season with,
so that is the way it goes, injuries are a part of the game, and they just have
to keep going with whoever is in goal.

I guess you are happy tonight, talloola, I'm quite happy, I watched a bit of the game but that goal by Nashville kind of turned me off - it was a soft one, I think, so after that just kind of kept an eye on it from a distance so to speak- main thing is a 2/1 win and on the road and against one of the up and coming better teams. Good way to start '09.

Well, you win some you should lose, and you lose some you should win, so
tonight it seemed they were doomed to lose, didn't play well 2nd and most of 3rd
period, but pulled it off, so that's good, now, if they can do the same tomorrow
in Atlanta, they will be holding firm to their position and not sliding down.
La barbera played excellent, good for him.
Edler flopped all over la barbera on that nashville goal and our other defenceman was totally out of position, and our goalie couldn't move because
of edler.
But our first goal was a softy too, as their goalie wasn't expecting a shot at
that moment and wasn't ready, ohlund just shot it toward the goal and in it
went, so 'tit for tat' I guess.

Canucks came away witha 4-2 win over edmonton tonight. Close game in the first
period, very tight checking, neither team wanted to give an inch. Canucks scored
in the second and one minute later edmonton scored.
Canucks were the dominant team from then on, Bernier had a good game, scored
two goals, and 1 assist, and burrows had a great game, 1 goal and two assists.
Sundin played just as he should for the first game, short shifts, a little longer in
the second and third periods, and did fine.
Dimitra scored in the empty net.
Very important game, as we are now 3 behind calgary again, so we are holding
our own.
Calgary are very hot right now, and look like the strength of the division right now.

Keanan will need to challenge someone soon and screw things up.

Sundin was getting his sea legs tonight.

The Oilers don't lookn as impressive as they were the last few years. Lots of talent but maybe not enough toughness. Good punch by Souray though.

hope he does, they are getting too good, made san jose look quite ordinary last night.
Sundin was getting his sea legs tonight.
yeah, he was fine, played a very safe game, didn't want to get caught up ice at any
time.

They also didn't have hemske, who has been playing excellent this season.
Good punch by Souray though.
Yeah, did you notice Ohlund took his eye off the ball, and was trying to take
souray's helmet off, wasn't looking where he should have been, payed the price.
Probably will have a black eye in the game on friday.
They can't avoid a fight like that, don't know why they get all uppity when a good
body check is given out, guess that's the way it goes.

canucks played a poor game tonight, it is a costly loss, as they now have to play
san jose tomorrow, which is a much more challanging foe, so, unless they play
fantastic and beat them, they will have two losses in a row.

I hear luongo is coming back in a couple of games, that is good, but how rusty
will he be, and how long will it take him to get back to top form.

There were lots of bad passes tonight from lots of different players, so can't
single out anyone, sundin took penalty near end of game for slashing, too bad
the guys stick broke, those sticks are crap anyway. Then hanson took stupid
penalty for diving, and he did, so we were hooped then.

Forget it and move on, that's all they can do, vineault will sort it out.

Luongo will be back in a couple of games? That is good news. He should help, as the players know that he can be counted on to make the big save, no matter how rusty he is.

Tonight the wheels fell off in the third period. St. Louis is not a great team by any stretch, so this loss is surprising. They can beat San Jose, as San Jose has not been as dominant the past few games as they have been at the start, but they will have to play hard, and play hard for the entire game.

Yes, play hard they must, and accomplishment lots. I think they will be much
more dissapointed in themselves than I am in them as a result of tonights
mish mash, so it will a time of much thought for them before tomorrows game,
and a wonder at how they could have let this one go.
Yanik Hannson was brought back up because he had a great game in Manitoba,
he scored a nice goal tonight, from a great pass from Mitchell, but then he
went on to get a couple of stupid penalties, the first one was a silly trip he did
to a player who was just skating to the bench, and the other was a dive that
definitely was a dive, penalties can't be helped on some occasions, I understand that, but he looked dumb on each one, so no telling what vineault will do with him now, maybe he is allready on a plane to manitoba again.;-)
