Well, no surprise, Detroit owns the puck, it's a game where we constantly have to 'get it back',
but they didn't give up, tied it with a couple of minutes to play, then the overtime was ours
to own, and we did just that, and with a power play, 4 on 3, dimitra gave salo a beautiful pass,
and he did a nice close slap shot, to win the game.
They are such a 'close' knit team right now, just like a bunch of kids playing on a pond, lets hope it continues.
I think we play Calgary on thursday at home, then at calgary on Sat. then out for a big road
trip again.
They outshot us by lots, but they didn't outchance us by much.

True. The Canucks were getting chances. The Red Wings aren't nearly as intimidating as they once were. The Canucks are playing together as a team much better than they were at the start of the season and that is to be expected, but the return of Dimetra has made a big difference. Their first line is as good as anyone's, and better than most.

Alex Burrows has made a reputation for being a thorn in the side of the opposition every night he suits up, and the Calgary Flames know that better than most teams. Always a strong defensive presence and an agitating force against their top players, Burrows has picked up a new habit so far this season – getting to the Flames on the scoreboard. The 6’1”, 190 lbs. winger has three points (2-1-3) in just two games against the Flames, scoring twice in the season opener before setting up the overtime game-winner in Calgary two nights later. Burrows is hoping to snap the three-game point-less streak he has entering tonight’s game, the longest drought of the season so far for him. He has not registered a point since his two-goal outing against the New York Rangers eight days ago.

The Pincourt, Quebec-native will be looking to extend his point streak against Calgary to three games tonight while trying to help his team extend their win streak over the Flames to three games as well. His three points against the Flames this season are behind only Henrik and Daniel Sedin for the team lead, while his two goals are tied for the team lead against Calgary with Daniel Sedin and Rick Rypien. In 21 career games against Calgary, Burrows has notched five points (4-1-5) and 50 penalty minutes including two game-winning goals.For the Flames…

There are probably no Flames players who come into this game hotter than Curtis Glencross. A free agent signing during the off-season after spending the latter half of last season with the rival Edmonton Oilers, Glencross has been a welcome addition to the Flames’ secondary scoring corps already having tallied 13 points (4-9-13) in the first 22 games of the season. The 6’1”, 195 lbs. winger, who was never drafted, is one of just 11 Flames players to appear in all 22 games this season and one of only three players out of that list to manage a positive plus-minus rating.

The native of Kindersley, Saskatchewan enters tonight’s game with five points (2-3-5) in his last two games and has recorded at least one point in five of his last six games. He set a new career-high for points in a single game in his last outing when he recorded three points (1-2-3) against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. He will be looking for his first ever points against the Canucks tonight. In eight previous games against Vancouver, Glencross has zero points and 15 penalty minutes.

The Canucks will get a boost from the blueline tonight as d-man Kevin Bieksa returns to play his first game after missing six due to a fractured foot sustained in early November.

“He’s a puck moving defenceman, he’s always seems to be up on the play, he’s really creative offensively and he’s good at making first passes out of our zone," said starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. "So, when you can add a guy like that to your lineup it’s nothing but helpful.”

Bieksa, who was also injured at the beginning of the season and missed three games, is eager to get back in the action as the team continues on a hot streak, going 8-0-2 in their last ten games. Between injuries Bieksa managed to register eleven points (3-8-11).

“These are two very important games to us," said Bieksa. "We had a couple games to start off the season that went well with Calgary there, and it’s no secret that they weren’t happy with the way they played and they’ll be looking to get some revenge tonight. It’s always a hard fought game against Calgary and they’re fun games to play in so I’m glad I’m back for these."

Alexandre Bolduc is also looking forward to tonight's match up against Calgary, his NHL debut. Bolduc is stepping into the lineup for Ryan Johnson, out 3-5 weeks with a broken foot and finger.

“Right now, it’s just more excitement, and probably more towards game time I’ll start to get a little more nervous," said Bolduc. "But right now I’m just trying to enjoy it and go step by step.

Well, the canucks have been on quite a winning spree over the last couple of weeks, so it was
time for a loss, it seems they had become a little to used to winning, and the loss now will
sharpen them up again, and make them realize that they only need to let up a little, and others
are waiting to take over, just human nature I guess, as it's hard to maintain the kind of intensity to win, when you're winning all the time, it will gradually let down a little.
We also don't have our no#1 goalie right now, and a couple of those goals were 'saveable', and
possibly would have been saved by Luongo.

The special 16-day initiative will take an in-depth look at Trevor Linden’s career, concluding on December 16th, 2008 just one day prior to Trevor Linden’s sweater retirement ceremony.

The 16 Days of Trevor Linden will feature video and print content as well as a series of photo galleries highlighting Linden’s hockey career spanning more than two decades. The 16 days of coverage encompasses draft day in 1988 through to his last game on April 5, 2008 and will include stories and accounts from on and off the ice courtesy of former teammates, coaches, fans and countless others impacted by Trevor.

You can bet nobody breathed a bigger sigh of relief than Mason Raymond on Thursday night when he beat Miikka Kiprusoff in the third period to snap a streak of nine consecutive games without a goal. With Steve Bernier on the sidelines, Raymond took advantage of an opportunity to play alongside Kyle Wellwood and Taylor Pyatt scoring for the first time since November 4th versus Nashville. Raymond, who snapped an eight-game point-less streak this past Monday against Detroit, now has points in consecutive games for the first time since late October-early November when he had a four-game point streak. His 18:15 of ice-time on Thursday was also the most he has had in nearly a month and just 34 seconds shy of matching a season-high.

The Calgary, Alberta-native will be looking to extend his modest point streak to three games tonight when he returns to his hometown. His goal on Thursday night was just his first point of the season against the Flames, although the former Camrose Kodiak has had some previous scoring success against his hometown team. In five career games played against the Flames, Raymond has three points (2-1-3) and a plus-one rating.For the Flames…

Lost in the excitement of Mike Cammalleri’s first career NHL hat-trick was the fact that Jarome Iginla managed to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season against the Vancouver Canucks. The Flames’ captain, who had just five shots and a minus-three rating in the first two games against the Canucks this season combined, notched two assists on Thursday night – both of them coming on picture-perfect passes to Mike Cammalleri. The former first round pick of the Dallas Stars in 1995, 11th overall, led the Flames’ in scoring against the Canucks during 2007-08 when he tallied three goals and nine points while appearing in all eight games of the season series.

Canucks appear to have what they need now, a lot of depth and lots of firing power. Last lost against CAlgary was one game where having a guy like Luongo may have made a big difference, but I think for 75% of their games any good goaltender will suffice.

OK, now we have some reason to feel threatened, Canucks dropped the two games
that would have put lots of daylight between 'them', minnesota and calgary, but
now they are both only one point behind Canucks, so, although they have played great
over the last while, they are breathing down vancouver's necks, and they must respond.
Kind of exciting, the northwest division is always so close, so looks like it will be
like that again this season.
Minnesota has two games in hand on both Canucks and calgary, so they have an advantage,
as long as they win those games. They have trouble scoring goals, they are among
the lowest 'goals for' in the nhl, maybe when gaborik returns that will improve.
Canucks are off to Columbus now, I think 'Monday', then on to detroit, so they will
have their hands full, 'can't wait', this is fun.

After snapping a four-game goal-less drought on Saturday night in Calgary, Kyle Wellwood hopes a return to the city where his new lease on NHL life began will yield similar results as the last time he visited. On October 21st, the 5’10”, 180 lbs. centre got a second chance few thought he would when he made his return to the Canucks’ lineup in place of an injured Pavol Demitra in a game in Columbus after having cleared waivers just days earlier. The 25-year old responded with a huge effort, netting two points (1-1-2) and sparking a streak that saw him score six goals in a span of seven games since his return that night. He has not missed a game for the Canucks since then.

The Windsor, Ontario native comes into tonight with points in two consecutive games and will be looking to post his first three-game point streak of the season. With his ninth goal of the season scored on Saturday, Wellwood has now surpassed his entire goal total from last season in his final campaign with the Leafs. In three career games against the Blue Jackets, Wellwood has notched four points (2-2-4) and has a 100 percent shooting percentage with two goals on two shots.For the Blue Jackets…

Touted as the goalie of the future for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Steve Mason has become the goalie of the present for the team at least for now. Expected to spend his first professional career at the American Hockey League level, injuries to Pascal Leclaire and Fredrik Norrena at various times this season has forced the Oakville, Ontario-native to fast track his path to the National Hockey League. So far, the 20-year old has looked every bit like he’s ready for prime time. The 6’4”, 212 lbs. netminder has started in eight of the last 11 games for Columbus since being called up and he leads the team in wins (5), goals against average (2.09) and save percentage (.919).

Only sixty minutes into his NHL career and already Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider is drawing rave reviews.

“It’s his first game so it’s really exciting and he’s doing an amazing job out there,” praised Jannik Hansen.

“He’s looked great; he’s steady, he’s been great technically and when the pucks are hitting him, that means he’s doing a good job,” gushed Roberto Luongo.

“He played great, he kept us in there all night and I’m sure he’s happy with his performance,” exclaimed Kyle Wellwood.

Following Vancouver’s 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames Saturday night at the Pengrowth Saddledome, Schneider was the talk of the team after an inspired 28 save performance in his big league debut.

Acclaim and applause came from both locker rooms as even a few Flames admitted the 22-year-old played better than they anticipated, yet it was bittersweet for Schneider as he failed to backstop the Canucks to a win in an always important Northwest Division battle.

“I had a lot of fun out there, it was really exciting and I think I answered a few questions about myself,” said Schneider.

“At the same time, we didn’t get the points we needed and Calgary’s kind of closing in on us. It was a very big game and we didn’t get the win.”

Well, I guess you could call Cory Schneider a third string goalie, but he has the
talent to be anyone's starter, it's just that Luongo is here, so he isn't getting
his chance.
He's the top goalie in the ahl, I think he's 10 and 1, till the call up.
They didn't want to make him the back up, as he needs to play all the time, which
he does in Manitoba, and behind luongo, he would just sit, like sanford has
been doing till now.
We won two games after luongo went down, and now three losses in a row, oh well,
that's the way it goes, the northwest division is always a dog fight, no different this
season.

It's been a tough stretch for the Canucks on their longest road trip of the season. Vancouver looks to rebound in the final days of their seven-game road swing by starting with a fifth consecutive victory over the Predators on Tuesday night

Canucks come home now for a couple of days, feeling good about their win over
the nashville predators, 3-1, they played a very good game, and had many
good chances which did not result in goals. Sanford played a great game, and
made a great save near the end of the game to keep it at 2-1.
We are still in 1st place in the n.w. division, as calgary lost tonight to montreal.
Canucks play in edmonton on saturday, then back home sunday to host the
florida panthers.

The interest might peak a little during the NHL playoff finals or during the soccer World cup final but for everyday, regular season games, nobody is much interested. That's right juan. I used to go to the canucks forum, but most of the people on
that forum are obviously teen agers, as the talk is so immature and silly, so I
don't bother with that anymore.
I am going to hunt for a mature sports/hockey forum that I can be part of from
time to time, as I know they are out there somewhere.
I used to be the top woman bowler in New Westminster for awhile, when I was
in my early twenties, loved to bowl, but to 'chat' about it would be the last
thing on my list of things to do for the day, and very boring indeed.;-)
My husband likes to watch them on TV, but I think he would enjoy watching
people play tiddlywinks, he is very competetive and loves sports just as I do.
(but I hate watching bowling):-?
