i watched the complete press conference introducing 'trevor linden' as the president of all hockey
operations.

he spoke in detail of his plan coming into this position, he is excited, he is ready, and he speaks
very confidently. he has a plan, firstly he will hire the general manager in the next month or two,
and they will go from there.

all of the coaches will be evaluated and a decision will be made concerning them a bit later.

he will speak to all of the players very soon.

this is a very good move for the canucks, now their seasons ticket holders will think a while before
jumping off of the bus, and of course that is part of the reason for the big change, as the interest
from consumers was fading, and no one was happy with the season that is soon coming to an end.

he is so sincere and obviously very capable to go forward with this position, he is young and
very passionate About this team, and he wants to be with the organization for many years.

his partner will run his present business matters, and he said he is totally committed to this
new position.

he has lots of power, francesco aquillini stated that all of travor's decisions are his own, he
will be in charge of 'the hockey' operating side of thing, and he will work as well with victor
debowness, who is the business guy.

He was on Global News at noon for about 10 minutes- pretty impressive guy, I hope he does well and I'm sure he will.

jim corniellson is the fellow who sings the anthem for chicago. i just watched him sing 'oh canada', (montreal playing in chicago)

most of it in french, then the star bangled banner, and it would have been worth the price of admission

alone, just to hear him sing live, he is awsome.

i look forward to his singing each time chicago plays at home.

Hey, what's with this high pitched screech that Mark Donnelly lets loose with in the last stanza of the anthem? It's enough to peel the paint off the wall!

The guy in Chicago looks pretty hardcore military. When he isn't singing anthems he's probably water boarding people.

Excellent news, talloola.........been looking forward to seeing your breakdown of the situation. From everything I have been hearing, you are spot on with your analysis and it is great news for everyone. Can't see any losers in this situation and it is wonderful to see Trevor with an active role in the team. Fans have much to look forward to next year. About the only thing I am left wondering is what is going to happen to Torts??

i would assume he'll be gone, but i'll believe it when i see it. trevor said he would hire the g.m., then
coaches can be talked about, as there will be more than one discussed, and who knows what the new g.m. will
want to do.
if the new g.m. is j. feaster, he will keep torterella, but i certainly can't imagine trevor hiring him,
i see a younger, more advanced, modern thinking kind of g.m., with all of the high tech thinking that
is out there now.
there are some great gms out there right now 'with assitants' who have worked with them for years, and
a few of them will be just what trevor is looking for, i trust him to pick a good one, just hope its
not feaster, as he made a mess in calgary, then got fired by burke, so burke is also looking for a
g.m., as he has the same title as trevor, so the race is on to find the best one.
they took a little vote on the tsn analyst desk this afternoon, each had to say if they would keep
torterella or not, 'no' was the vote from all of them.

That's interesting I hadn't followed that little drama at all.

Old Torts hurt himself more than he could ever imagine by losing control like that-maybe the North Bay Trappers will take him.

Who would you rather work for, Brian Burke or Trevor Linden?

I rest my case.

yeah, we said that as well, so i don't think burke will be taking appointments
for that g.m. job, the lineup will be outside trevor's door.

yes, that behavior in calgary definitely made me take a big step back and begin to really take notice
of exactly what he was doing, i watched him long and hard after that.
that behavior will always be inside of him, and if he stays it will escape again down the road
sometime, it wasn't the first time he acted out, and it won't be the last.

a great example to set for your team., let alone your wife and kids at home who are watching the game.

Interesting last bit about JT, talloola...........really doesn't surprise me though. I think Torts lost a bit if not a lot of respect from the players for a couple of reasons that are well known. Hard to get that back. Also hard to motivate a team when you are fighting an uphill battle. For sure, if he is fired, it will not look good on his resume'. LOL!

PrintAVALANCHE (51-21-7) at CANUCKS (35-33-11)

TV: ALT, SNET-P

Last 10: Colorado 7-1-2; Vancouver 5-4-1

Season series: This is the last of three games. The Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks split the first two, with the Avalanche winning the most recent game 3-2 in overtime on March 27 at Pepsi Center.

Big story: The Canucks made a major move toward the future with the hiring of former captain Trevor Linden as president of hockey operations Wednesday. Vancouver is destined for its lowest full-season point total since the 1999-00 season when it earned 83 points and missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. President and general manager Mike Gillis was fired by the Canucks on Monday, a day after the team was eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

"I'm passionate about the Canucks and I want to win, just like our fans," Linden said. "I believe in this team and share the organization's commitment to excellence on and off of the ice."

Team Scope:

Avalanche: Colorado continues its season-ending four-game road trip with a stop in Vancouver and can still catch the St. Louis Blues to win its first division title since the 2002-03 season. Despite a number of key offensive players missing time throughout the season, including current injuries to forwards PA Parenteau and Matt Duchene, the Avalanche can also catch the Anaheim Ducks for their first Western Conference title since the 2000-01 season.

The road trip has not fazed first-year coach Patrick Roy as his team easily handled the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-1 win Monday. The victory marked an Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques franchise record for most road wins in a regular season with 25.

"We have a team record for wins on the road, and our players deserve credit for that," Roy said. "They're playing hard every night, and every day they come on the ice and they're ready to play. It makes me extremely proud of them."

Goaltender Semyon Varlamov likely will start Thursday with a chance to earn the new franchise-record 41st win of the season, which would be one more than his coach Roy had as a player with the Avalanche in the 2000-01 season.

Canucks: Linden is considered the face of the franchise, as he was selected by Vancouver with the second pick in the 1988 NHL Draft and played 14 seasons for the Canucks, with seven as team captain. The former center shined brightest for Vancouver in the playoffs, where he holds team records for games (118), goals (34), assists (61) and points (95).

"We believe in Trevor's leadership abilities," Canucks Sports & Entertainment chairman Francesco Aquilini said. "His 20 years of NHL experience including seven as team captain, his role as NHLPA President, community leader and businessman offers a very special skill set; one that will positively shape the direction of this club in the future."

Who's hot: Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has nine points (five goals, four assists) in the past eight games.

Injury report: Parenteau (knee) is expected to return to the Avalanche lineup Thursday, while Duchene (knee) remains out. Avalanche forward Cody McLeod (ankle) is doubtful. … Vancouver defenseman Christopher Tanev (hand) is out.

one down two to go

the twins are playing 'vineault' style hockey, last years
structure, they are cycling well, and jenson fits right
in, they look much more comfortable right now than they
have all year, i think torterella's rule book is out the
window and they are coaching themselves.

team 1040 on their early program this morning said that torterella will be fired monday, don't know
how they seem to know this, and maybe they really don't. but they sounded very sure, did not confirm
it however, as they can't, till the deed is done.

one of the things i had a problem with concerning torterella, completely separate from actually coaching
in a game, is the fact that he made a decision to 'not' move to vancouver, but stayed on u.s.
soil by living in pt. roberts, and he chose to travel back and forth.
maybe that is why the team had quite a few 'non' practice days, and also it was reported by a journalist
who has been to many practices, and he stated that torterella many many times was not at practice when
it started but showed up somewhere during the practice, later on, and the assistants were in charge
till then.
that is bizarre, as even though he wasn't actually on the ice, he should have been in the building
doing his job.
i now see him as a person who chose to 'not' thoroughly endear himself to the team, but alloted himself
a certain number of hours per week to work, which was much less hours than his assistant coaches.

i also know now that if he isn't coming back, he will be bought out, and he 'won't receive full wages
but will receive 1 mill per year, instead of 2 mill as his contract states, and that is good.

apparantly trevor linden has spoken to him quickly and politely, but has not spent any time at all actually
meeting with him.

we will know on monday, either confirmed or not.

just heard 'pierre mcguire' having a big chat with the team 1040 guys, and they tried to delve into his
desires to be g.m. in vancouver, and of course he very intelligently answered their questions without
answering their questions, but in my opinion he would be an amazing person to have in the organization
as he is loaded with information on hundreds of players around the league and outside the league,
internationally, amateur, etc., also ray ferraro also would be a great addition to the team as well,
maybe as 'one' of the coaches, or somewhere in management, an assistant, but somewhere, as he is
another very valuable person with a very deep hockey brain, and also a people person, and a very
strong individual as well, and he wants to be with the canucks, he said if they called him he would
definitely listen.
he said he would never leave b.c. to work, just like linden said about himself, they are totally
connected to this province, they are b.c. products, and will become totally part of the franchise
and the community, which he allready resides, just like linden.
jim benning who is 'assistant g.m.' in boston, is also a name that has
been mentioned quite a few times, is a very respected hockey man, and he
and trevor linden do know each other.

good for canucks, we have something to cheer about, they are falling further down the list as winnipeg have now passed them, And carolina
won tonight, so if canucks can lose the remainder of their games, and carolina win one more, they
will Also pass canucks, looking better And better for a good draft pick.
cAnucks could end of 25th overall.

san jose just beat colorado 5-1 and winnipeg also won, beating calgary, so winnipeg will go a bit
further ahead of canucks.

Yes, looking at this it seems the right thing to do for everyone, including Torts, is to cut ties quickly. Linden might wait another month before choosing a GM. And when that happens there is a good chance the new GM will want a fresh start. Not really fair to leave Torts hanging until then.

I have nothing against Tortorella. He gave it a shot. If some of those guys had hit empty nets every once in a while (even once a month) rather than go scoreless practically all year they'd be in the playoffs. You can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink.

yes, some of that is true, but he still changed the structure of the team, it really showed on the twins,
and last night they played like they did before he came, it was noticeable, one of them wasn't dumping
it in for the other one to chase it, and i actually see the team quite changed in last nights game,
even though they lost, they were in the game for a couple of periods, still missing the net.

and he's probably saying to himself, "i don't give a flying **** how they
play now, i'm gone in two days, whats the point of me telling them anything,
i agree with him, just pretend for the next two games.

he's not gone yet, we'll see on monday.
