Wow, I sure didn't think the Canucks had that much toughness in them, they had more big hits tonight than the whole regular season. It was a really good game, a bit of a let down in the second but picked it up enough in the third to keep the Hawks at bay for most of it. Lou played amazing and Edler was huge. You could sure see the mismatch in the second half of the game as Quinville was down to playing about 12 guys and the Canucks just kept rolling the top 3 lines with a few 4th line shifts tossed in. This will really start to make a difference come game 3 or 4.

ames.

Your are so right about the depth of the teams, toews and company were driven like slaves last night, and
I understand that strategy, it is the only way chicago can win, BUT, if they don't score, like last
night, they will finally fade away, those guys were tired last night, toews, on the bench, was drenched
in sweat and just had time to catch his breath, and out he went again, sometimes double shifting, I
know he is young, but come on, give him a break.

Once you get past that big line on chicago, the two teams become drastically different, chicago doesn't
have much depth at all, forwards and defense.

Chicago will come out next game 'flying', as they must get their goals early and first, then maybe
they can roll their lines more evenly, and play more defense.
The twins only played about 17 minutes, and as you said, vineault was rolling 3 and 4 lines all night, so
no one was overplayed.

BUT, we must never underestimate their top players, right up there with the 'best' in the league.

Their goaltending was great last night too.

Granted, I didn't get to see many Cannucks regular season games, tallola, but I tried to keep up with them through you, the forum and the hockey shows - I had no idea that they were so good on defense! Some of those hits last nights were simply outstanding!

I too felt bad for Captain Serious, he worked hard last night and was let down badly by some of his team members.

Corey was fabulous in goal - as was seen by the Cannucks managing only two goals against him. They tried every way they could to intimidate him - good on them.

Hockey commentators made much of the fact that while the Hawks had to work all their lines really hard last night, the Cannucks were able to 'rest' some of theirs for longer periods. I gather that is a good thing?

If the action keeps up this way, we could be in for a heck of a great series.

GO, CANNUCKS, GO.

Vancouver was not only the highest scoring team (262 goals) this year but had the least goals scored against them (185), the next best was Boston & Nashville (194).

Crawford did play well after the first, he settled down and kept the game closer than it might have been. Had he completely lost his confidence the score could have got out of hand, Kudos to him. We will see if he can keep it up now.

Thanks Mowich! :)

Go Canucks Go!

Two of my grandsons were given tickets to a game right near the end of the season, they are not
actually hockey fans, but the experience for them was awsome, and they will never forget it.

They sat part way up the end zone, not far up from where luongo is for two periods, and they
were right there for the complete warm up by canucks, so they had lots to talk about.

You have fun, the game will be awsome, chicago will be trying harder tomorrow, and will want to
score first, so canucks better be ready for them, and i'm sure they will.

yeah, I agree, we did have the chance to pull away tonight, but a couple of 'iffy' goals, that one quick shot surprised luongo, I don't think he expected him to shoot, and lost a
bit of focus for a second, and the second one was a poor rebound, but not only that, not one canuck was within reach of the puck, so it was a bit unlucky. He's bailed them out
a few times, so it would have been nice if one of them had picked up that rebound and return
the favour.

thats ok, this keeps the team sharp and focused, and now they are off to chicago, and will
be ready for that crowd against them, but they have been an excellent
road team, and I don't expect that to end any time soon, not much shakes
them up they are pretty focused and prepared.

chicago isn't nearly as deep as canucks, but they have elite players who can burn you at any
given moment, so this isn't going to be a piece of cake, they will have to work hard to win
this series, and I know they expected that, just watch vineault's interviews, he isn't surprised
nor is the team.

I guess torres will be in the next game, so hodgson will sit out, and raymond will
probably be center on the 3rd line again, with torres and hansen,(who is playing
so well), hope torres keeps his elbows down, but he is a good hitter, and it seems
hitting is the game right now, lots of physical play, looks good on canucks to
play with lots of hitting, it definitely has made a difference.

Anaheim and nashville have a split
tampa bay and pittsburg have a split
washington are up by 2 over rangers
san jose won first game over l.a.
montreal won first game over boston
buffalo won the first game over philly
detroit won the first game over phoenix

good luck in chicago boys, you can do it.

Takin' care of business or what! They were so professional last night - focused, composed and on a mission. Even when Hansen got the penalty - it was okay, my bad, off to the box - no back talk. Then he comes out and makes good with a goal - what a guy!

Lots of really good hits.

I could almost feel the Hawk's frustration - when Jonathan lost it and started beaking off at the ref for the penalty on ? Sharp? was it - I thought oh, oh the Cannucks really are getting to them. Give them credit though, especially the rookie, Smith - they kept trying and made it a game.

GO, CANNUCKS, GO! Good luck in Chicago guys!

yeah the rookie smith was definitely a bright spot for the hawks, don't know if he can keep up that
pace, but it is a positive influence for them, and took a bit of pressure off of the top players, who
have been playing way too many minutes.

cheering for habs today.

I agree, tallola - would like to see some of the others step up too - can't believe how many minutes the Hawks' top guys are having to play. My neighbor tells me that it is because they lack players to give them the depth that the Cannucks have - any comment?

Detroit is ahead of Phoenix right now: 4 - 1 in the last minute of the second period. The Coyotes are not playing disciplined hockey and are only hurting themselves, so far.

Yep, it is going to be a real sports day here. First the Detroit game, followed by Capitol One Grand Slam curling, then the Habs game and finally round two of curling. I think I've died and gone to heaven. The weather is terrrible, snow overnight and temps below 0' - can't do anything outside and the house is fine.........so I'm all set!

Waiting to hear how Alley's night went, heard on the news that Vancouver fans were a bit overjoyed by taking the second game and beating the hex.

definitely, after the two top lines, chicago tail off badly, that is why those top players have
been on the ice so so much, while vineault rolls 3 and 4 lines.

habs are holding their own, still ahead 3-1 with 8 minutes to go, hang on guys.

The Habs won at 3 - 1. Both Canadian teams are up 2 games to zip on their oponents.

I was up in your area today Talloola. Jan and I drove to Comox to watch the Snowbirds. The show started about 9:30
but the weather at that time was ugly. The Snowbirds put on the best show they could with the weather they had. I was
just about frozen by the time the Snowbirds were finished but they did the best they could and it was good to see them.

There's a Habs thread here-WTF don't you use it?

Canuck's thread is just fine for all hockey talk, If the words "Habs" or "Canadians" happened to appear on it most people would recognize it. I know hockey is like a religion to a lot people and religion has altogether too many threads so one thread should suffice for hockey.

I've been watching them all week through my work window. I love this time of the year.

You should create your Hawks thread.
