Looking at the game from a Vancouver fan's point of view, the Canucks were bloody awful. They couldn' t score. Their defense was pitiful. Their goaltending was straight out of minor hockey. I stopped watching after the second period. As it turned out, the third was just more of the same. These guys are supposed to be professionals.

#Juan- the best team in the world has wash outs. If they don't beat Phx. tonight then I'll start to be concerned.

Columbus thumped S.J.- who'd have thunk it?

yeah, me too, and i'm sure vineault will be too, so tonight is exactly the same for us as it was for
chicago last night.
I watched chicago play calgary night before, and couldn't believe it was the chicago team, they were
bloody awful, and they gave calgary some hope for themselves, first game in many that calgary looked
really good. this game can be confusing sometimes, guess it's all about expectations from everyone,
even themselves, and 'oops' 'umm', where is my talent, I thought I knew how to play, then the reality
sets in, oh oh it's going to be one of those games.

you're right, if they play that poor tonight, then there is room for concern.

halak has played great this season too for st louis, lost last couple, but he has been lights out,
montreal had two world class goalies, couldn't keep them both, and I agree with their decision, as
price has always had that talent, just had some set backs, and he is much bigger than halak.

montreal and toronto always show up when they play each other, and in toronto's case,
any good game they place these days looks real good, as they have been so bad, but
that won't always be the case, they have some good players, pretty good goaltending
and should begin to come out of their funk some day soon.
I like montreals team, kind of small but never stops skating, and price is their
backbone and always gives them a chance.

there are so many really good goalies in the league now, as over the past five
years or so the goaltending had picked up everywhere. brodeur use to be the
best, but he is on his way out after an amazing career, and luongo is playing fine,
but so many have become just as good, and better than he. can't really find a
bad goalie anywhere any more, at least not one that is 'just' poor, they all have
a game here and there that is not sharp, but snap back for the next one, even
theadore has been playing great, and he went thru a very bad few years, but seems
to be on the mend. makes for very competetive games from everyone.

Yep, it's called sh*t happens. First game after a road trip too, so probably more focused on other things.

That's a pretty lame excuse. Given the recent history between the two teams, the fact that the Hawks are cup champs, their recent substandard performances and also that first place in their weak division was on the line, the 'nucks had every reason to be focused on this game. It does appear that they are not really that good. I'm not sure but I think they now have a sub 500 record against teams with a winning record.

If they don't beat Phx. tonight then I'll start to be concerned.

Phoenix isn't a good yardstick. They are the Jeckyll and Hyde team in the league. On any give night they can look like cup favorite. Conversely, on any given night, they can make even the Leaves look good.

That is saying very little- if the record was sub .500 against losing teams you'd have something. Phx. is typical of about a dozen teams in the league- N.J. Minnesota, St. Louis, L.A. Anaheim.........................need I continue?

excluding the very bottom two teams the western conference is very close in points, canucks dropped a
bunch with that loss but could jump up lots with a win tonight.

columbus is the most improved team at this point, scott arniel is doing a good job with them.

can't use yardstick with any team one plays, a team just has to play their game, and doesn't really
matter who they are playing, if they play their best they will either beat the other team, not playing
their best, or have a barn burner, if both teams come out at the top of their games. Good example of
that is chicago in calgary the other night, if a team doesn't come to play, that is a loss, whomever
they are playing.

last year means nothing now.

phoenix has 9 wins, but they have 5 overtime losses, which means all of those games were a difference
of only one goal, nothing jeckyll and hyde about that.
they are 3 and 0 on this road trip, and on a 5 game winning streak, so don't
expect phoenix to be a pushover, seems canucks are the underdog in this game.

at this point of the season, only about 20 games in, the conference is still juggling around, and
teams are still feeling their way along, some on a roll, others not, but that flips flops, as the
standings show right now, as time goes along those points will probably begin to widen inbetween
teams, and show who is 'really' becoming the strength of the conference and who isn't, and even
then, one has to wait till after the trade deadline and watch what teams bolt to the finish line,
and peak just right for playoffs, (and there is always those injuries that make a difference), if
st. louis had of stayed healthy they would probably still be on top of conference.

I stopped during the second period when it was still 2-0.

The TV camera focused on AV for a few seconds and from the look on his face I knew the game was lost.

That is saying very little- if the record was sub .500 against losing teams you'd have something.

On the contrary, it says alot. Vancouver is good enough to beat bottom end teams. It would appear that they aren't good enough to beat top end teams. While Vancouver has a winning percentage of 0.333 against other teams with winning records, a team like Detroit has a winning percentage of 0.615 against other teams with a winning record. News flash!!!! Come playoff time games are usually against teams with winning records.

canucks outplayed phoenix till phoenix scored the first goal, then I noticed canucks immediately go
into a shell, and become very defensive, obviously worried about being scored on again, which of
course did happen, can't play that way, unless your ahead by 5 in the third period, then do a bit
of defensive play and play out the game.
canucks deserved the first goal, didn't happen, that's the way it goes.

slowly the game was tied up, but all in all it wasn't a very good game, anyone could have won it,
but canucks didn't, phoenix are playing with a little more confidence, because of
their recent record, and canucks are a bit fragile right now because of their recent
record, just human nature.

the game was slow, and didn't flow at all. they will have to fight their way back to a better level
of play, and they will, they won't keep losing, but they won't keep winning unless they snap out of
this funk. sedins didn't perform well tonight, but kesler showed up and played hard, so did raymond
although he isn't scoring, but the effort is there.
torres is living up to his reputation, as a streaky player, hot for a while then
doesn't show up for a while, he's done that all of his hockey career, with exception
of one year in edmonton.

hamhuis had a good game, and luongo was solid, can't stop everything.
it would have been nice to see one of those shots bounce off of someones butt at the end and in the
goal, a little puck luck is something they definitely needed.

canucks play colorado on wednesday, we will be at that game, looking forward to seeing those young
guys they have on that team, should be a good game.

I watched the game from start to finish, as I do all the games, can't give an
opinion on a game if one shuts it off somewhere along the way.

I like to analyze the play when it is good, bad or indifferent.

Wow! What can you say? Gotta wonder what will happen if the 'nucks drop down into third in the division....maybe even fourth now that Iggy seems to have found his touch again. It's really becoming evident that Luongo just isn't the goaltender that some people thought he was.

Whenever a team loses more than a couple in a row all the "Chicken Littles" come out of the wood work. Anyone who is knowledgable (like Talloola and #Juan) knows the Canucks are a solid team and will never be too far from the top of the league.

the team definitely misses what burrows can contribute to the team, it is obvious that he definitely
is still behind the play, his skating has to improve, and I won't be surprised if it takes him almost
all season to catch up. He isn't the best skater in the world anyway, so when he has to lag behind
all the others for so long, as he did after his surgery, (early summer), and wait, wait and wait to
get back into the game, it will take him longer because of his skating.

I see slow improvement from samuelsson, he started very badly, now he is with the twins, and has had
a few bright moments, but he also is not at his best, and needs to step it up.
It's hard for daniel and hank to do have success without that third guy buying into what they are
doing, as burrows did last year, and at times samuelsson did as well.

I'm looking forward to the game on wednesday, I just have to remember to stop watching the jumbo tron,
and look at the game, and remember that I am actually there, and not in my living room, yeah, that does
actually happen, kind of sad aye. lol

Haven't seen any Chicken Littles lately. The only one critical of the 'nucks is me and I was critical of them before they really started to stink. Of couse, I also appear to be the only one that can read stats. Either that or other people think Luongo's (32nd best) 0.907 save percentage is "solid"....or that his 0.918 lifetime save percentage makes him one of the leagues best....jimminy crickets...it's barely better than Cory Schneider's.

.

Vancouver is in fourth place but they are moving up fast . They will likely be in first place at the end of this road trip.

fail!

Yep, figures can lie (and liars can figure)- it's not the percentage of saves that's indicative of the goalie's ability but the kind of shots he's stopping-or not stopping. I've always said the Canuck organization should have held back part of the $64 million.

As a snapshot yes but not over a career. It'll all pretty much average out in the end. There is no denying though that Luongo has not been one of the top 1/2 dozen goaltenders in the league over the last few years. He's cracked the top 10 in GAA or Save % only twice since 06/07. Thomas , Backstrom, Rask, Miller, and Brodeur are five I can think of off the top of my head that have bested that stat. Then you consider Luongo finished closed to 20th last year on both stats and one could hardly consider him a top goaltender.

peter shaefer has been put on waivers, and tambellini has bee recalled, and apparantly
samuelsson is being dropped to 3rd line.

not sure if burrows is going back with the twins, or if tambellini will be there, as he
did have some success when he played with them earlier in season.

doesn't matter either way, the change is needed as samuelsson has not played well all season, and they need to respond, so a bit of a change can do that, hopefully.

all teams go thru dry spells, and this is one, so it would be nice if they snap out of
it a bit tomorrow, (cause I will be there lol)

Schaefer is probably the team's best penalty killer but didn't produce much more-I suppose his career is over now.

yeah, I would think so, and yes, I agree he is very good defensive checking player, but I guess they need
a little more than that, even from their fourth line players.

He did play better last game, but he had been sitting for a few games, and more effort was there, but
it never builds to anything else.

Media can't seem to understand why he stayed and they let morrison go. Well, that really is quite simple,
morrison is not a fourth line player, and there was no room in the top 6 for him, and if calgary was
healthy at that time, morrison would not have been signed there either. They had injured centermen, and
they needed him, and he has settled in quite nicely.

After 20 games in, one would think morrison could have helped canucks, but with the cap system, they
can't just sign players, just in case. Besides shaefer signed a two way contract, and morrison would
not do that.

There are good up n coming players in manitoba who can help the canucks when needed.
Cody Hodgson is doing great down there, his game has come back now that he is playing all the
time, but hopefully he doesn't have to come up till next year, or maybe during playoffs, as he
needs this year to really get going on his pro career, he is a good one.

With a convincing win over the Avs maybe the naysayers will simmer down for awhile, after all this was a team above .500 they beat.
