House might pass health bill without Voting on it

I have called Mark Kirk and many others personally. I have a story very like Natoma's -- with a twist. My sister -- a university grad with a job and paying into a health plan -- was diagnosed with colon cancer. To make a long story short the insurance company canceled her because she "was too expensive." When she died in her early 40's(!) she had lost her house her assets was on welfare and eating out of handouts and food banks. Nice. My son on the other hand became quite ill when he was in gr. 9 and we were here in Ontario. Within a week he had seen our family doctor, a specialist, had x-rays and blood work stress tests etc. done and had been referred to and seen by the head of thoracic medicine at Sick Kids. He was operated on 24 hours later. He was in Sick Kids about 9 days with 24/7 nursing and post-op care.
My total bill? $42.87 for bandages adhesive tape etc. Thank God we were here. I have nightmares thinking what might have happened to us if we were in the States!
I am praying for the success of reform. I still do not understand what the big deal is!!!

In the emergency room everyone passes through triage and is given a code based on a nurse’s cursory evaluation of their affliction. If you are not satisfied with the "care" that is provided there is nowhere else to go, except to an American hospital if you are close enough to the border and can afford to pay cash. Canadians know that if you call an ambulance you can bypass the 10–12 hour wait in the emergency room, but this drives up the costs of healthcare even further.

Some but the survey ignored all other factors. It was done by Harvard so that SHOULD tell you a lot.

Poor Americans get the best health care around and pay absolutely nothing. Not a thing. When you are poor and are at the public trough everything is paid for.

You should read up on who suffers when they are not insured. It isn't the poor.

Well like I have said. The US House and Senate are making themselves exempt from any Health Care Plan that they pass for us.

That is your opinion, YJ. Americans elected Democrats in 2008. If Democrats are not going to pass the health care bill, why did they run for election, to be carbon copies of Republicans?

My hope is that they will pass the health care reform and then face the electorate in November. If they lose as result of it, so be it. It is much better to lose an election because you accomplished something than to lose an election because you did nothing.

Polls are fairly divided on that Jack, If the dumbocrats were better at communicating then I feel that the number would show high favor for government insurance. Fear sells better in the US so the Republican talking points are the ones that are listened to because they are simple and scary, both things Americans relate to.

To be honest, Americans don't deserve cheap, accessible and quality health care.

The polls are interesting. While a majority of Americans oppose the health care bill, a significant number of them oppose it because it does not go far enough.

So, while many people want to scrap the bill and start over again, there is little support for the Republican position, do nothing and ignore the problem (as Republicans did when they were in power for 12 years).

People clearly want health care reform, if not this particular bill. Big deal, I hope democrats go ahead and pass it.

Yuo can't argue with statistics, can't respond to statistics with political propaganda, EagleSmack. If you think that 60% (I thought it was 70%) figure is wrong, put up a link which you think shows the correct figure. Even if you think there are zero bankruptcies due to health care costs (I assume that would be the Republican position), you must provide a link for that.

When health care was being debated, Republicans searched the world over to look for horror stories about other health care systems, to convince Americans how their health care is the best in the world, and how people are dying in the streets due to lack of health care everywhere except in USA. I assume far right dug this one up at that time.

But American health care has resulted in lowest life expectancy in developed world, one of the highest infant mortality and highest maternal morality (mothers dying during childbirth) in the developed world.
