Northern Ontario,
This is a new low for Pelosi:roll:
CBS News
After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate's health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it.

Instead, Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers "deem" the health-care bill to be passed.

The tactic -- known as a "self-executing rule" or a "deem and pass" -- has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill. It is one of three options that Pelosi said she is considering for a late-week House vote, but she added that she prefers it because it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure.

That's a new low for the US system.

What I can't stand about the US system is that every bill gets saddled with all of these unrelated things that are stuck in there to satisfy various congressmen in order to get their votes. It makes the whole system unweildy.

There is nothing low about it, it is purely conservative, Republican propaganda. The tool that Democrats are thinking of using, Demonpass (deemed and passed) is a widely accepted Parliamentary tool in the US system, and both parties, Democrats and Republicans have used it many times.

Republicans used it many times to raise the debt ceiling, when they were racking up huge deficits and huge debts, the favorite conservative pastime. Now to blame Democrats for using it, when Republicans have used it many times in the past, is sheer political partisanship, nothing more.

When did they open a Parliament in Washington?

"Quite. It remains to be seen if democrats have the guts to pass it, or they play chicken yet again, as they did under Clinton (and paid a heavy price for it in 1994 elections)."

Nothing to with being chicken. More to do with being STUPID.

Two famous quotes are in order here: "Those who do not learn from history are dommed to repeat it" and "The surest sign of insanity is doing the same thing and expect a different result".

Americans did NOT want Hillarycare in 1994 and they do NOT want Obamacare now.

This is no longer about bringing socialized healthcare to the US, it is about politics.

The Democrats have always had the votes to pass any bill they want providing they agree on it. They have had the votes for some time. They have the majority in both houses plus the Executive Office.

Polls are fairly divided on that Jack, If the dumbocrats were better at communicating then I feel that the number would show high favor for government insurance. Fear sells better in the US so the Republican talking points are the ones that are listened to because they are simple and scary, both things Americans relate to.

To be honest, Americans don't deserve cheap, accessible and quality health care.

Just keep sending us your wealthy and politicians and we'll take care of them like we always do and in a timely fashion.

Keep watching your fellow citizens go bankrupt and receive treatment the HMO decides and not their doctor.

No not really.

I have never said our system is perfect, but cross border health care use isn't new both ways.

Fear, so you suggest that people are not going bankrupt because they get sick?
