Don't mis-understand me JLM. If we are to believe that God/Jesus heals, then no one would ever be sick. We say God is all forgiving so sin cannot be used as an excuse as Ally suggested. Some people believe that God even goes so far as to create illnesses such as AIDS because of sin or because the world is over populated. I believe that life happens. I also believe that most illnesses are caused by the things we do. My grandson's mother did not know she was expecting a child and had one night where she got totally hammered. But then for most of her pregnancy she lived mostly on a diet of coca-cola and chocolate bars. Do we blame the booze night, the lack of nutrition during the pregnancy or do we say it's God's will? I think I would be inclined to believe more in the general lack of proper nutrition over all and maybe lean toward the booze being a factor also but since I have no proof of anything, I cannot see any reason to offer up any blame.
My minister once said to me that he could not understand why people believe that God has chosen their child when a child dies. He said he didn't understand why people believed their child was so special that God takes them. I said to him that people need a reason to believe in because their grief is so great that, that is their way of justifying what seems a senseless death. He was taken back by my response but also agreed with it. His own wife, who appeared so totally healthy, suddenly died enroute to Red Deer just over a year ago. She awoke with a violent headache and while he raced her to the hospital within something like 7 min. time, too much damage was done for them to save her from what was occurring inside her brain. Her death saved the lives of some and gave purpose to others. They were able to donate pretty much any part of her body that could be donated and she was about 60 yrs. old. Now here is where Alley would say she probably caused her own death through sin. She believed in Jesus but she did not believe in the healing he was said to have done. She was a nurse and said that as a nurse, she struggled with that belief. That minister still lives in your town today and he is still struggling with the loss of his wife. Not in a religious way but he just misses her terribly.
A well-known and respected Catholic cleric was asked, "Do you believe in miracles?" His answer was, "Of course! But, I've never seen one!"
