Funny, that. The muslims wanted an Islamic display to join the christian and jewish ones, so as a result, the city wont have any.

There was no mention that the muslims had any objection to the existing displays.

"We asked ourselves if we were willing to display (symbols of) the five major religions," said Mayor Philippe Roy."This is not the role of the city, which is a secular public institution."

The secular idea was around long before Islam came to town.

Yup...when everything goes on sale:lol:

In the civilized world that is 12/26.

I have no problem with a city hall not having a religious display. They could have also had a display on demand assuming they had the budget to create the additional displays.

Even without the city display, the church across the street should be able to have any display it chooses on its front lawn. If that ceases to be the case, then that would be a cause for concern.

yes, thats the way I view it too, those who are not christian can see it from every angle, and government
buildings shouldn't be advertising christianity at christmas, christian buildings can do that, and other
religious denominations can advertise theirs, with government and religion being separated, then that is
the way it should be, not advertising christianity or any other religion.

private enterprises can do what they want, each citizen can do what they want, but I like the idea of
'not' pushing 'one' forward by the government.

what stores or others advertise has nothing to do with what 'each' of us decide we want to believe or
see, and with the nativity scene taken away from a government building, doesn't mean anything has
changed about christmas at all, it just means they aren't going to 'favour' any religion, and especially
in a country like canada, that is so multi cultural, it shows thoughtfullness for all.
