I'm looking after chickens for friends who are on holidays. One chicken doesn't want to leave the nest. My girlfriend told me that she - the chicken - is probably brooding but it was okay to go ahead and take the eggs. Trouble is she's been sitting there for over a day now and I'm not sure the eggs are still edible.

You may eat them with complete confidence. She won't mind cuz she cannot count worth a damn. Those eggs will be good for many weeks, they do not require refrigeration even.

I had breakfast at a denny's in Tucumcari new mexico years ago and the fried eggs were rotten. Took me awhile before I could eat eggs again

Eggs have a natural antibiotic coating so naturally collected ones don't have to be refrigerated unless they have been washed as they are in the retail system...
Washed store bought eggs should be refridgerated

lately I have been making omletts in the pressure cooker
seems to work like a charm

between the steam and about 3/4 teaspoon of corn starch per egg...

and I filtched two green tomatoes on the way home from the local...

My buddy won't eat eggs. He calls 'em "chicken abortions". I, on the other hand, enjoy what I call the cycle of life meal. Eggs and chicken together, like a chicken omelet or something.

I really enjoyed my time with the chickens, DB.........they all have different personalities - some are real characters. I wouldn't hear a peep or cluck out of them until I approached the cage and started talking to them then they came alive and greeted me with all kinds of happy clucks. I always thanked them for the eggs and told them I would enjoy every single one.

The owners also have two of the strangest ducks. They are from Ecuador and Barney, the husband, told me they were street ducks. They will not go into a pond or puddle of water preferring to stick their beaks in a pail of water then spray it all over themselves. They also have wattles on the sides of their faces. Unfortunately, my time with the cluckers and quackers is coming to an end as the folks are due home tomorrow. I will miss my feathered friends.

Mine are free range here Mowich, I can't get off the porch without them muging me so whenever I'm in the yard there's this entourage of red hens arround my feet waiting for handouts. You do not want to have something tasty in your hand because they will leap waist high and snatch it.
