Perhaps Harper should read some of his campaign speeches. Isn't this something only a dreaded Liberal government would do? Are all politicians full of BS and bluster? Apparently so.

The Republican Party would consider the CPC a bunch of pinkos.

The problem is this: all of Mr. Harper's ministers are political neopythes. Peter Mackay has already gone widely off-message on Hamas. Harper has a couple of priorites he wants to deal with, and he needs NOT to be distracted every time an inexperienced minister shoots ghis mouth off.

I think this will greatly relax once the House opens, and the government has set an official agenda for its ministers to deal with.

Considering the huge differences between the two parties at "the merge," Jersay, I would not be entirely surprised; moreover, such a "fracture" would only serve to strengthen the chance of the Liberal Party of Canada at the 40th General Election, in addition to decreasing the duration of the current Government of Canada — I most certainly wouldn't be opposed to that.

I just hope to god that happens.

Then with NDP support near Liberal maybe they will have a chance to become the government because if people feel the Liberals don't deserve back in yet they will vote in the NDP.

I have said it elsewhere on these forums; in my opinion, the Conservative Party of Canada must tread carefully. If they screw up, then they could be exiled back to the Opposition side of the House of Commons for another decade.

How about this, Jersay; when I become the Governor General of Canada (the representative of Her Most Excellent Majesty, Haggic McBagpipe, of course), I might just "miscount" the seat earnings in the House of Commons, and "inadvertantly" appoint the Honourable Jack Layton, P.C, M.P. as the first New Democratic Prime Minister? :D

(Psh, twenty-eight seats is enough for confidence — right?)

Ignoring current conventions about majorities and what-not, constitutionally speaking, one seat could be enough to ascertain the confidence of the House (so long as the other parties, of course, supported that one Member). Some time in the future, under some exigent circumstances, I have no doubt that we are going to see the true adaptivity of the Parliament of Canada exercised.

RE: Harper Mutes Minister

"loose lips sink ships"- funny that a lot of the news spots I heard yesterday about this issue used that term... I mean funny in that the expression was n reference to the Enemy getting wind of plans in wartime... IS Mr.harpres government at WAR with WE THE PEOPLE?!?!?!? Damn I hope not, but that's the sense I get (much like the situation to the south of us, I am surprised the war hasn't been publicly declared)

And this secrecy thing just STINKS- if they have such a sweet plan, a package of killer ideas for our country, how could mentioning them in public be some kind of problem?? You'd think, if they had such grandiose, universally-benefitting plans, that they would be eager to let us know- even just a "teaser" to fill the vacuum of information that has been created between the government ond the citizenry at this time...

I don't like the secrecy..

OH and I also have long held the belief that the Conservative party should split- in my few posts here I've already put that forward (don't askme where, but I DID)
The ideological differences of the 2 main factions are too hard to get past, with the agenda of one acting as an albatross 'round the neck of the other... if the true fiscal consevatives were freed of the wacky right-wing "values" agenda they would encounter a LOT less resistance from the average Canadian- heck, I could even see voting for a party that was "strictly Canadian business"

As it stands right now, the NDP are the liberals of the 70's-80's, the Libreals are the Conservatives of that era, and the current Conservatives are the right-wing party we never wished we's have (well, some of us at least)

Two things right off the bat and the globe and mail is a typically Conservative paper...

WHAT??? The Globe and Mail is NOT conservative, it is moderate. The National Post is conservative.

ah right.

Christ. You either don't read the Globe and Mail, or don't read The National Post. Or just don't read at all. Where are you getting your information from? It's common knowledge the Globe and Mail is pro-Liberal.

RE: Harper Mutes Minister

What’s a matter orpheus? I might have err’d on the political leaning of the Globe and Mail and when it was pointed out, I made a post that I acknowledged I might have err’d.

Why are you making more of an issue of it? You don’t know what I mostly read. If I’m misinformed in any of my posting then you are welcome to correct me.

If after all I’ve said on this forum, if this is the one issue you feel I really need to be flamed for, well I have to wonder why.

RE: Harper Mutes Minister

Touching. However, this isn't flaming. And when you say, "ah right," it sounds a lot like sarcasm.

Edit: Speaking of the Globe and Mail, I read an interesting article on this Harper topic.
As quoted from The Globe and Mail, " The PMO does not have unlimited resources. Three officials-just three-have been assigned to manage and vet the flow of all government information. Information is power. Taken together, this means a tiny group of unelected officials around the Prime Minister is running the coutnry."
