That will ensure we have a nation of undivided loyalty to the Canadian state..
lmao Tell that to the Quebecois separatists, First Nations people, etc.

You need to become a permanent resident in order to take advantage of healthcare.
That, too, unless you go out-of-pocket.

Political power still emanates from the barrel of a gun, and govts have a monopoly of force in a nation.
Tell that to a Swiss person and they'll laugh at you. The gov't can't fart without the Swiss people's sayso.

I'm sure if they paid out of pocket then half of the people here wouldn't even give a crap about citizenship or loyalty or whatever.

Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Scandinavia are very similar.

And what about First Nations passports?

Should we send them back to their own country too? Oh yes, i forgot. That's what reserves are for.

Oh, the french government proposed sending troops to Canada?

And what about Canadian expats voting from abroad? Should we put an end to that too? What about Canadian soldiers, diplomats, businessmen, military family members, etc.? They should be banned from voting from abroad so as to not offend other nations' sovereignty in case they come to believe the election will mean we'll suddenly invade them militarily?

Paranoia abounds.

Oh yes, and what about the Vatican's Swiss Guards? So should we ban all catholics in Canada from participating in any Vatican election for popes in case the Swiss Guard decides to attack?

Canadians abroad vote for their riding in CANADA, not a riding in Europe, Asia or Africa. Canada, as part of North America, has a seat in the French National Assembly, and that representative votes in Paris on issues from a Canada-France perspective. France is claiming a form of political sovereignty in Canada because, right now, in Paris, French nationals, in Canada, have a representative in Paris.

It's doing nothing of the sort. It's free to have whatever representation it wants in its national assembly and last I checked French laws still apply to France only, unlike US laws pertaining to US citizens traveling to Cuba from Canada. Now that is a concern.

IMO Mulcair came through on Canada's side - just based on a TV interview with the guy (either that or he's just as glib as any other politician)

The point is.... It can happen and a door is open to it happening in a more dangerous way than just some French ballot boxes. We live in a society growing increasingly into what ifs as technology brings the world to our doorsteps. That's part of this new Gobal Society crap too....

Sometimes, you get what you ask for....
