I've had 20 years of experience at this while it was still legal. Holding the mike while talking isn't the hard part, paying attention to the conversation and thinking about the questions coming at you is. The proof comes when you try to think of two things at the same time.
Hands-free texting while driving just as dangerous, says study - British Columbia - CBC News

Well there ya go.. Police, Ambulance drivers, Taxi drivers take heed.. don't talk on the mike while doing your job.

Friggen Police State.

These days they are always looking down and typing into the in car computer.

Sometimes I think they sit and watch DVDs and eat timbits instead of watching the dope dealers which freaks out and scares away the dope dealers anyway.

All this crap that is supposed to make life better. (I don't smoke) but people are more
and more restricted beyond reason. Drinking is next folks wait and see, no pot smoking
now, no talking on the phone while driving, kids can't throw snowballs at school, and the
list goes on. No matter what one wants to do they have a way of making it unacceptable,
Personally I am becoming fed up with most of the laws.
Here in Kelowna we have bicycles everywhere. There are bike lanes for cyclists at the
expense of drivers. I think that is fine as long as these bikes are licenced, and the operators
have a licence to be on the road and insurance as well. Cyclists ride for free and I pay for
the upkeep of the road they riding on. Everyone should pay and share the road.
As for radio or voice texting I don't think its a problem. A phone in your lap and texting by
hand is a problem. We have too many busy bodies with little or nothing to do but stick their
nose into other peoples business. They run free over the land like edicate Nazis demanding
we all conform it is nonsense and we subscribe to it like lemmings

You every hear the joke;

Guy is driving down the highway and a police officer pulls him over.. officer walks up to the side of the car, asks; "may I see your insurance and drivers license sir... do you know why I pulled you over today?"

Driver reply's; "I dunno, because I look like a doughnut?"

I think they should rescind all safety laws, like seat belt and helmet laws. I might reduce the number of idiots on the road... might take out some who aren't stupid, but, Hey, there are too many people taking up space on the planet anyway.

That's one way of looking at it. Boomer brought up police, ambulance drivers and taxi drivers! Well, they are just as capable of killing through stupidity as anyone else. Nothing can be more dangerous than talking on the radio while rushing to Timmy's for a doughnut! -:)

You need to be a little more sensitive, there JLM. Cops are. They get all defensive about stereo typing them as doughnut addicts.

I guess it "all depends on whose ox you want to gore" (as Davy Barrett was fond of saying) Healthcare costs are choking us, so I'm for anything sensible that reduces that. Cyclists while riding for free are not polluting and generally will be healthier than those who drive (as long as someone doesn't run them down) Helmets are good, even if they save one person from being brain dead for life and a drag on the taxpayer.

Next thing you know they are going to ban radios in vehicles cause listening to music while driving is distracting. This will be so much simpler than just keeping the terminally stupid from driving.
