So. . . if you're attacked by a knife or gun-wielding maniac, you're gonna jerk out your Browning and field-strip it?

Good idea.

Not what you asked. Although I could dazzle him with my speed and skill at the task.

Less parts, less complex actions in the mechanics, means less chance of failure.

Which is one of the reasons the old Browning (designed in 1925) is such a dependable handgun.

Design work started in 1914. Patent was applied for in 1923.

Ummm....no.
Some are, but many are not.
The .44 Magnum and those revolvers (and self-loaders) chambered for even more powerful cartridges are designed for hunting, or defense from dangerous animals.
There are also a number of single shot and bolt action pistols made specifically for hunting.
There are literally dozens of types of .22 and .32 pistols made specifically for targets, and Olympic competition style shooting.
Just for a couple of examples: ok

You'd have to an idiot to rely on a hand gun to protect yourself against wild animals. How about a .303?

Anyway, whatever fantasy trail your gun love takes you, hand guns were and are specifically designed to kill or immobilize human beings at short range. They were not designed for pauncy hobbyists, wannabee bear hunters, the Olympics or any other excuse. They are originally military weapons, going back to black powder flint locks and all the way to Barrettes. They were meant to be carried into battle. Police adopted them later. They were never intended for "Look at my shiny new d...." That is a modern, made-for-TV affectation.

Yeah!!!!

Run them goal posts!!!!!

Run them right off the field! lol

What you SAID was The small ones that you hold in your hand are designed to kill members of the Human race and nothing else.

What you would have to have said to make your most recent post viable is The small ones that you hold in your hand were designed to kill members of the Human race and nothing else.

And what they were designed to do has absolutely nothing to do with the purposes for which handguns are designed today. And we're not talking about Black Beard's flintlock pistol, nor even Jesse James' Colt. We're talking about the entire spectrum of modern handguns.

In plainer language, your recent comment above is unadulterated bullshyte. It is obviously simply an attempt to cover your own ignorance, and the fallacies inherent in your position on the matter..

7.62 x 49? Who even uses that?

Oh, right, Brits and wannabes.

????????????

You mean 7.62 x 39?

Brits?????

Never mind, I got it.

Although I don't think 7.62 x 49 is the correct designation..........for the much loved .303. Here in Canada anyway. I cut my teeth on one. Or two.

Looked it up.

7.7 X 56 R.

Nooooooo. . . I mean exactly what I said. 7.62 x 39 is the Soviet short.

7.62 x 49 is the .303.

7.62 x 51 is the .308.

7.62 x 54 is the Soviet Dragunov.

7.62 x 63 is the .30-06.

Almost.

7.7 X 56 R. is the correct metric designation for the .303 British, which is why I was confused. The case is longer than the 7.52 x 51............I reloaded a lot of each.

clearly, you should reload .303 bullets into a 7.62x51 shell and ask Curious Canadian to shoot it out of a .308 winchester.

That's what they're there for. Ignore military history..

I've got over 30 years worth of "off label" use by only shooting it at paper targets with circles on it.
they were not originally gpdesigned for what you guys use them for. They were meant for close combat on battlefields ... only .... exclusively.

Whatever modern use you have applied your handguns to in modern times were likely never considered by the designers.

You're desperate line of argument is not helping your case, as we are not discussing either the military, nor history, but civilian guns today.
Give it up. You're making a fool of yourself.
You're delusional and deliberately ignoring history.
