Because they are at the top of the currency pyramid. All the other currency are based off of it. So it doesn't matter how much deflation it takes. All other currency deflate relatively to it as it's the petroleum dollar we all trade for fuel with. The biggest resource for production on this planet. Essentially they are so close to the top of the ponzu scheme they are immune to themselves
What they must prevent is anyone from trading in a different currency then the American dollar for oil and they are safe.

The more we borrow the more likely other countries will try and break away from buying in US currency.
