PTRC Accepts Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum’s Global Achievement
Award from Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan
Today at the Petroleum Technology Research Centre’s main offices in Regina, Saskatchewan, the
Honourable Joe Oliver, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, and the Honourable Dustin
Duncan, Saskatchewan’s Minister of the Environment, presented Dr. Malcolm Wilson – CEO of the
PTRC – with a
Global Achievement Award from the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum
(CSLF).
The award, which was originally accepted by Natural Resources Canada at the CSLF’s Annual
Meeting in Beijing, China in September of last year, was given to the PTRC and the IEAGHG
Weyburn-Midale CO
2 Monitoring and Storage Project, which is the largest CO2 storage project in
the world with an estimated 21 million tonnes of stored carbon dioxide. The PTRC accepted the
award as the manager of the project on behalf of all scientists and partners involved with the
research. Both the Government of Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan have been
significant financial contributors towards the research conducted in the project.
The CSLF – which granted the award – is a ministerial-level international climate change initiative
marshalling worldwide resources to develop technologies for the separation, capture, transport and
long-term storage of CO
2 from power plants and industrial facilities. Its membership includes 25
developed and developing nations – all united in seeking practical and constructive ways of dealing
with concerns about CO
2 and climate change.
An earlier press release on the awarding of the CSLF Global Achievement Award to the IEAGHG
Weyburn-Midale CO
2 Monitoring and Storage Project appeared at the PTRC’s website in
September, and is still available at:
