I said it was a tragedy about the 14 year old girl..

I wasn't there, I wasn't the cop.. don't know what was going through his head at the time..

When I lived in Texas I was involved a couple of times in stopping crimes where the person was arrested.. I had my firearm pulled, but never fired.. I talked to the person, waited for police..

In one case the guy had a knife, had threatened to kill his girlfriend.. when I was able to put space between her and the guy, my wife wisked her away.. I talked to the guy, convinced him to get dressed and leave.. the minute he left, 5 cops tackled the guy at the bottom of the steps.. he had left the knife in the kitchen wall upstairs..

It took me 20 minutes of talking, and sweating sheets of water.. I didn't even know at the time the police were hiding and listening to me trying to have the guy leave the premise.

Right after that incident I moved, particularly when the couple moved back in togeather..

Also remember thinking if this is what police do for a living, what a thankless POS job I would never want.

The guy was beating women with a bike lock. I assume the cop must have figured shooting him was the only option to stop him. Having time to think about the situation, I think it was the wrong choice. But in the spur of the moment I can see it. Also if they didn't shoot him and he took another wack at a woman with the bike lock and that proved fatal, people would be questioning why he didn't shoot him.
