The guy was beating women with a bike lock. I assume the cop must have figured shooting him was the only option to stop him. Having time to think about the situation, I think it was the wrong choice. But in the spur of the moment I can see it. Also if they didn't shoot him and he took another wack at a woman with the bike lock and that proved fatal, people would be questioning why he didn't shoot him.
He was 7-8 meters away. How long would it have taken him to close the distance and tackle the guy? With three other cops less than a second behind him?

Except he had stopped beating her from what it looked like on the body cam.

Obviously but we have hindsight. If you watch the actual video, you can see everything the cop did, and didn't do.

But in the spur of the moment I can see it.

Maybe, except no.

Watch the video.

And a taser...

There was no excuse really especially in a store they could not guarantee was clear of civilians AND being in the changing area where they didn't know if people were hiding in place.

IMO that was negligence on their part.

A few other factors:

1. He never said a word. Never shouted "Police!" or "Halt!" or "Yer mama has a fat ass!" or "Free tacos!" Because shouting to distract a wrongdoer (and to establish your police authority) apparently isn't policy.

2. He pulled up to level his weapon and fire. If he'd just kept going, he woulda hit Lopez faster'n it took him to fire.

3. He had three other cops less than a second behind him. I guess LA cops can't win a hand-to-hand with only a 4-1 advantage.

4. All three of the other cops he pushed, pulled, and shoved past were armed with Tasers, batons, OC spray, and pistols (as was Rambo), the latter of which fire bullets far less likely to penetrate walls.

But the bootlickers say we can't know, therefore we can't question. Well, if we can't question, why bother to have policy and investigations in the first place? The cops should just shoot anybody they see. Cuz ya never know. . .

I thought it was interesting that because he had the 'rifle' that he therefore got point and no one seemed bothered by that. Now initially I can understand it, if it was an active shooter situation AND they had confirmation of such. But they didn't

The whole situation was a cluster fuck and a cop killed an innocent kid because he was trigger happy but as usual, nothing will happen to him because he followed 'standard procedure' or whatever.

That's some pretty serious moralizing coming from someone who thinks theft is the same as capitalism.
