If there is ANY "God's Sport" it is not some ninny crap like cricket - or for that matter hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. - but track and field. No props, no sticks and bats, no artificial boundaries, no phony judges, but only proof of what you are. And how good you are at it.

You really haven't got a clue. One day County Cricket matches have always existed. I know that limited overs came later. Don't talk to me as if I know nothing.
Don't get upset, Sir Porker isn't worth it. Besides he does that to everyone.

Sorry if I offended you. But you started it, with the following comments of yours.
lmao Wrong. You started it, as usual, with your stupid comment that test matches were strictly 5 days long.

Anyway, let us call a truce, OK?
It's nice to see you admit defeat. roflmao

Funny. I always figured gods must like playing Go Fish .... They don't seem to be are inept and indifferent about the universe.

Perhaps not God's sport, but cricket is certainly Royal Sport, YJ. And track and field? What kind of following does it have? Cricket probably has the widest following in the world, next only to soccer.

Royal 'sport'? Clear indication of the mental acuity of royalty.

What kind of following does track and field has? And/or is that an indication of its value? Track and field probably has far more followers than Gilbert and Sullivan.

Is cricket played in Canada and the States? If not, who the Hell cares?

When I was a tad on the Prairies, the top 10 sports were:
1. Baseball
2. Skip rope
3. Skating
4. Hockey
5. Hide and go seek
6. Knife (Mumble-de-peg)
7. Marbles
8. Tobogganing
9. Rugby football
10. Biking
Sorry, cricket wasn't on the radar, unless you count kick-the-can

Yup. I am that. Funny thing is, the etymology says nothing about the word "football":
rugby 1864, after Rugby, public school where the game was played, from city of Rugby in Warwickshire, central England. The place name is Rocheberie (1086) "fortified place of a man called *Hroca;" with second element from O.E. burh (dat. byrig), replaced by 13c. with O.N. -by "village" due to the infl. of Dan. settlers. Otherwise it might be *Rockbury today. First element perhaps rather O.E. hroc "rook." Rugby Union formed 1871. Slang rugger for "rugby player" is from 1893.
IMO, it's be kind of like calling hockey by the term "hockey stickpuck". lol Or Baseball by the term "baseball batball".

Kids continued to call the game "rugby" for years afterwards.
Yeah. Hubby's been playing it since he was in grade 5 or 6 and I've never heard him call it by "rugby football". "Rugger" on a rare occasion but not "rugby football".

Geezus, I'm not talking about rugby; I'm talking "rugby" which is what kids called their game which was like Canadian football but with different rules. GIRL!
