I still believe in education in one's interest or future endeavor but it doesn't stop with a piece of paper of fulfilling the requirements of the institution who awards the final marks.....

There are many educated people in our world who need nothing from intellectual study, but are without peer in their 'life observations' and consequent decisions made from them.

I think the most fulfilled are those who have learned the art of "not reacting" to incident or life or learning, but seek to incorporate whatever lesson is desired from our own interest and conclusion of our life's learning lessons which are delivered on a daily basis.

A tough lesson and more difficult if important to our personal lives is our reaction time and result can be turned into a positive learning if: the longer we can reason and ponder how we react to something which catches our attention may teach us far more than one full year in collegiate study - especially about ourselves.

Especially those incidents which displease us, make us angry, make us react, and even depress our sense of self-worth. We deal far more successfully with complimentary and pleasant events and are able to accept them at face value whereas negatives are the lessons no institution of learning can teach.

Those things are only a means to an end, not an end in themselves. My 9 year old grand daughter can operate all of the above mentioned. They involve rote, not deep logical thought. :smile:

Oh yeah, like men never gossip, get catty, moody, brooding, spiteful or hold grudges for exceedingly LONG periods of time. I've worked in a few places where the majority of the employees are men and let me just say HA!! :lol:

The reverse is true, also. Like hubby says, what would an auto mechanic these days know about ignition points? Very few techies have even seen an amplifier tube. Take your GPS out into the woods and the batteries die. How would you ever figure out how to get home. I always carry a range finding compass and a map even if I have never used them to find my way back from being lost. People go freaky if they can't use their computer. The point is, that however cool the gizmos get, there's always a downside.

Excellent point. My son's a naval officer, modern naval vessels have at least triply redundant GPS systems, but they taught him about the compass and sextant and the mariner's astrolabe too. Satellites can be shot down, electronics can fail, so just in case, they can still navigate by 19th century methods if necessary.

Jesus! That's over the line, active and malicious cruelty in my view, it shouldn't surprise you that sometimes the consequences are pretty nasty. You put out an ad like that, sooner or later somebody's going to respond to it, whether you meant it or not.

You think so? I was a boy once, I saw that kind of provocation, and not all of us sucked it up. What's the most direct form of revenge against cruelty like that? Women were raped back then too, and with women deliberately behaving that way I find it a little difficult to have much sympathy for the victim. I'd never excuse a rapist, I think that's unpardonable violence regardless of provocation, but it doesn't do the feminist cause any favours, it just reinforces an ugly stereotype. Which from your story appears to have some truth to it.
