But the other question is, why would Israel purposely hit a UN outpost? It is counter-productive, which would lead one to believe, as unlikely as it seems, the attack was accidental.
It was not accidental, israel never cared about the UN.
You don't have to care about the UN to know that deliberately blowing up a UN outpost would be a bad idea. And surely, the cunning Joooosss would know it's a bad idea, right? There's no way they would be stupid enough to do it on purpose. And you don't get to control the world media, the world financial institutions, and have the world's only remaining super power at your beck and call - by being stupid.

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
So why did Israel deliberately blow up a UN Outpost?
The only answer I can think of the UN oBservers saw something or might have saw something Israel didn't want them to report. It would have to have been something so sensitive that killing the UN Observers would create less fallout than risking a sensitve secret becoming public.
For example, its possible Israel's initial invasion went so bad that Israel feared a Hezbollah invasion. Its possible Israel deployed tactical nukes and didn't want any witnesses. In such a situation, Israel might deliberately target a UN outpost.
That's a far more probable explanation than "Oops we finally hit the UN outpost after a dozen near misses."
