How dare they.

Paris to ban all gas-powered cars by 2030

The noise of car engines revving around the streets of Paris might become just a memory.

In its latest initiative to reduce air pollution, Paris City Hall wants gasoline-powered cars off the roads by 2030. The controversial move announced Thursday follows Mayor Anne Hidalgo's plan to ban all diesel cars from the city by 2024, when Paris will host the Summer Olympics.

Speaking on France Info radio, the Paris deputy mayor in charge of transport, Christophe Nadjovski, said "we have planned the end of thermic vehicle use, and therefore of fossil energies, by 2030."

You can always count on a politician to keep a promise 13 years after they make it.

Hell, Justin Trudeau can't even keep a promise he made 13 weeks later.

"What does France have for oil deposits?"

Their hair. Not many Soap factories in France. Lots of Bidets, though. Of course you need those in case you're in a line-up and you drop your wallet and bend over to pick it up...and the guy behind you takes advantage of the opportunity to sniff your arse.

It makes sense to start with high-density cities and work our way out from there.

Unfortunately, Canada has only three cities that can be considered 'high-density,' and even then only in the urban core.

It is easy for retards today to try and impose some ridiculous and impossible rules for a decade down the road since they will not be responsible for making it happen.

I would suggest that no one has to make it happen. Electric cars are being produced in ever greater numbers and even in their current configuration they are perfect for urban driving. Given the fact that many other jurisdictions are phasing out the internal combustion engine there should be lots of choice.

There is the new buggy whip market.

So are you ready to abandon all the tax subsidies that electric cars get? And the free charging municipal taxpayers are footing the bill for?
It is not that I am against electric cars. They have their place but to think banning proven technology to force change to an expensive and very limited means of transport is retarded.
So far there does not seem to be much of a program to recycle their batteries. Or explain to people how in 7 years their $40000 car is now worthless because it costs more to replace the batteries than the car is worth.
