to watch the board continue to further degenerate given the antics of those who purposely derail threads... like you/petros!

don't give yourself too much credit there little buddy.

we did very well before you got here and just as dandy while you were *away* this past little while.

we won't miss you when you're gone again. ;-)

are you experienced?

no internetty savvy?

*holds the crybabies hands for a moment*

now Locutus, I appreciate your clear comfort zone is to ONLY drop C&P quotes/linkage... you know, where you never bother to, where you never have to, actually provide any of your own thoughts/commentary! I had a guy try to suggest to me that this was simply your way of encouraging board discussion... that you can actually talk on your own... that you actually have thoughts of your own. I'm not so sure and look forward to you finally... at some point... bringing it beyond your forevah C&P routine.

in that regard, your linked article's author presumes to chastize those speaking of net-zero carbon emissions... in say a 50-year time frame. Hey now Locutus... what does "net-zero" imply to you... is that you (and your linked author) presuming to suggest that implies a complete divestment of fossil-fuels? Say it ain't so Locutus... say it ain't so!

The OP is a bunch of oil lobby BS fear mongering propaganda.

Who needs to import anything. Once everyone is off grid and making their own food, clothing, & entertainment will be perfectly sustainable.

In an ideal world maybe. The point is that sustainable tech is already here but the reason only 10% of power is generated by it is that sustainable tech is not a priority of governments that are ruled by oil lobbyists. Portland, for example is putting turbines in their water systems.

Portland to generate electricity within its own water pipes

There is plenty of other systems coming on line, but those who are making a killing at oil and gas don't want you to know about it. Unfortunately for them, the mass media is not where the majority of people get their info.

Cue some baffle gag from Pertroglyph and Capt Rummy.....

Once we are all unemployed we will all have to find a way to be self sustainable;)

Flushing the toilet repeatedly to make coffee doesn't sound to practical to me.

Hello!!! Everyone has 30 000$ to buy batteries to not have to flush their toilet each time they want to make coffee.

That's the Canadian price. Wholesale and non-green ecogouging price is $5K to get off grid batteries included. Why do ecogougers with green hearts need to gouge by 500%?

Because once people are off grid they won't need to make recurring payments so they factor that into the price;)

Buy it with my inheritance

SO freeloading then.

You forgot about the Run of River power projects. Green as energy can come. Cheaper than wind too.

Except to buy new batteries and various electronic controller parts. Oh wait since there is no more industry there will be no one to make your expensive parts. Better think about kerosene lamps. Oh darn no oil=no kerosene either. Guess it will have to be whale blubber for the old lamp. Woops killing whales isn't PC. Guess you will just have to starve in the dark.

That is a matter of opinion. Most I have seen would greatly contribute to massive declines if fish populations. There is also tidal and geothermal that have not received much attention.

Not really my fault China was let into the world trade association and stole all our manufacturing jobs because we can't compete with slave & child labor.

Yeah, but it's nice to have ready access to human organs for transplant purposes. Did you know that the Chinese have perfected the addadiktome surgical procedure?

The end result is. A free society like ours can't compete with a slave society like China.
So we have no choice. We will all be forced off grid eventually. It's simple logic. Once we have zero jobs we will be forced to do it simply because we will have no jobs to make money to pay for any services.

Or we can be a resource based economy until we run out.

or we can abolish all labour laws and regulations and manipulate our currency and beat China at their own game ;)

There is a tidal one currently being experimented with at a fishing lodge in Johnston straight. Good tide flow there so if it will work that will be the place. Trouble is non of these alt energy sources will supply a major city never mind any industry.

Not at all. It's flat out eco-gouging. They get you in 5 years with more eco-gouging when your batteries and invertor crap out.
